A little over a year after Konami shipped Ys
Napishtim no Hako on the Japanese Playstation Portable,
the company releases a "Special Edition" to
market... at full price. Re-releases and S.E.
variants are normally priced at a significant
discount off the original game's retail price but
Konami forges ahead in unblinking fashion.
Essentially, the special edition of Ys Napishtim no
Hako is the USA localization of the game re-released
for the Japanese market. The updated
features in the game are:
» New "Sealed Cavern" dungeon. To get there,
find the Rehdan Feather and then visit Olha in
Rehdan Village.
» Ark of Napishtim hero and heroine database
of key characters.
» Ys Media Player which contains BGM and
cinemas that have been unlocked during normal
gameplay.
» Trial Mode aka Sealed Cavern mini-games
where players endeavor to obtain more emelas, gold,
or experience. A password based ranking mode is also
included for the Trial Mode and the Time Attack
mode.
Other updated features include a quick-save function, analog nub
control, and faster loading times.

Siblings Isha and Olha are relaxing at the Moonset
Shore when Olha spies a piece of red-topped detritus
that has washed ashore. Upon closer inspection, she
realizes that it's an Eresian. An armor-wearing
Eresian named Adol Christian. She tells her sister
Isha to keep an eye on the stranger while she
notifies the village of the drifter. Silva and Largo
eventually carry the unconscious Adol into town on
the beck of Olha.
After Adol awakens from his slumber and introductions are made, he
tells of how his ship was attacked by Romun vessels
and then by the Great Vortex which spun him like
driftwood and discharged him onto the beach. Olha
introduces herself as a Priestess and answers Adol's
first batch of questions which help him get his
bearings. After meeting the other folk in Olha's
village, Adol ventures off in another adventure
where he wanders around Canaan, befriends Olha and
Isha, and battles against powers great and small...
Adol's attacks are shown in real time action where the red-headed
hero swings, jumps, and dash-attacks in full motion
action sequences. In addition to conventional
attacks, Adol may also perform a downward thrust and
learn new sword skills such as the Extended Wind
Attack and the Extended Lightning Attack. Elemental
swords also allow Adol to launch special magical
attacks such as cyclones and lightning.
The PSP version of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim includes a normal and a
hard difficulty level for players of varying skill.
There's also a Boss Time Attack mode and mini-games
to enjoy.
