Game Synopsis
«©NCS»
Developer Treasure returns to the gaming fold with
their second Bleach endeavor. Familiar faces and a
few new fighters join the original ranks from the
first game. In the Story Mode, Ichigo roams
around town to interact with characters and battle
with Division officers and Shinigami. In the Versus
Mode, up to four players may engage in a
free-for-all where fireworks and sword slashing
action fill up the screen. For players who need a
little practice before diving into the meat and
potatoes of Bleach DS, the Training Mode features a
dummy opponent who serves as an unflinching punching
bag at its default setting.
At its heart, Bleach DS 2nd is a 2D
fighting game where fighters range near and far as
the camera scales in and out to take in the action.

Game Notes
» The intro to the game features the Bleach theme
song "Resistance" by artist High and Mighty
Color that's of very good sampling quality. The
cover of the Bleach game also extols the fact that
the song is in the game with a little decal.
» Upon pressing START, the following game selections
pop up:
Story Mode
Arcade Mode
Versus Mode
Training Mode
Deck Construction
Urahara Shop
Gallery
Option
Exit
Every time you highlight one of the game modes or
selections, a male voice will intonate its name. In
the Arcade, VS, and Training modes, you may toggle
1-4 players by pressing the L or R buttons.
» A battle can get hectic when four players
participate all at once. Since the fighters all
accommodate and rush through two planes of the game
stage, utter chaos rules when two on two bouts light
up the screen.
» In Story Mode, players go through the initial game
as Ichiro and the first character met is a girl
named Yoruichi Shihouin who plays a dummy for the
training session. After following the cues and
completing the training run, Ichiro faces off
against Ikkaku Madarame indoors where the
bald-headed opponent fights with a spear. After
defeating him, Kenpachi Zaraki arrives to interact
for a short spell. In the next scene, Ichiro heads
into town where he bumps into Inoue Orihime, Uryu,
and Sado. Read through the interaction and continue
onwards to a scene with Yoruichi in town. We waited
for her to transform into her black cat form but
alas, it was not to be. After the conversation with
Yoruichi, the paths fork into two possible avenues -
one where Ichiro faces off again Kenpachi to the
east or a challenge against Ukitake Jushiro to the
south. The challenge in Ukitake's stage is the
collection of pastries and other special items that
fall from the sky. To complete the stage
successfully, make sure you collect more items than
he does while smacking at him to make sure he never
gets the upper hand. After defeating Ukitake, a
straightforward battle against Soifon opens up to
the east or you can retrace your steps and face off
against Kenpachi. Ichiro continues through various
interactions and battles until the end game. There's
a mission later on where you protect Hanataro Yamada
from a bunch of ruffians. Make sure he doesn't die
during the episode while beating back foes and
you'll earn a "Great" once all of the enemies have
been defeated and Yamada is still skulking around.
The entire Story Mode arc takes about 5 hours to
complete from start to finish.
» Once you finish Story Mode with Ichiro, two new
game modes are unlocked and available for play: Time
Attack and Survival Mode.
» To jump to the second plane in the background,
press the L-trigger. To pop back to the foreground,
tap the L-trigger again. Pressing the R-Trigger
blocks, B is for dash move, X is for Medium Attack,
A is for Strong Attack, and Y is for Weak Attack or
an elbow in Ichiro's case. To jump, push up on the
D-pad and push again in mid-air for a double jump.
Special attacks may be triggered by tapping the A,
B, C, D, E tablets on the touch screen.
» View a list of special moves by pressing START
during a game to pause and then select the "COMMAND
LIST." Ichiro has 8 special attacks that are
viewable at the outset.
» During a battle, the character names on top are in
English. When consecutive hits are smacked out, the
game keeps track of your hits. We watched Uryu once
rack up an 80 hit barrage with a stream of raining
arrows.
» Although the game screen valiantly scales in and
out to take in the fighting action when four players
attack at once, there are times when the screen cuts
off at the edges so that only a portion of a
character is viewable if he/she is at the perimeter.
» In the Versus Mode, players may set the rules of
engagement before going to the character select
screen. The available fighters at the outset of the
game are:
