NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCS»
A millennia before the events of the Tales of
Destiny games, a comet crashed into the world and
blasted dust and debris up into the sky which
obscured the light and energy from the sun. A dark
winter set in and the people toiled under the
harsh cold. What the comet took away however, it
also gave back in a roundabout way. The people
found a mighty power source known as Lens in the
remnants of the impact. By using Lens, they were
able to build a floating city called Dycroft. The
denizens of Dycroft eventually lorded over the
surface dwellers with a weapon known as the
Belcrant. However, the creators of the Belcrant
eventually sided with the surface dwellers and
rebelled against their former masters. While on
the ground, the scientists created weapons known
as Swordians which were living swords which helped
the surface people topple Dycroft.
Eighteen years after the events of Tales of Destiny, a new hero
rises to the fore. Born from the union of Stahn
Aileron and Rutee Katrea, Kyle Dunamis is a young
aspiring hero who is lives with his mother at the
outset of the game. One day, Kyle and friends are
out and about when they're attacked by slavering
bear creatures. Kyle can't take them by himself
and just when it looks like the reaper gains new
souls, Loni Dunamis rushes in to save the day.
Loni is like an older sibling to Kyle but he
joined the Order of Atamoni a while ago. He has
returned to Cresta in the nick of time. After Kyle
and Loni destroy the two creatures, the two return
home where Loni has a joyful reunion with Rutee.

NCS Game Notes
» The
song that plays during the animated intro of the
game is "Key to My Heart" from Mai Kuraki. The
intro starts off with waving blades of grass when
Reala appears followed by the other main
characters including Kyle, Loni, Judas, and more.
» Press START on the snowy title screen and the
following selections pop up:
NEW GAME - Begin a new adventure as Kyle Dunamis
CONTINUE - Resume a game from memory stick save
data
CUSTOM - Set sound volumes, button configuration,
adjust colors, etc
BONUS TRACK - View a Tales of the World animation
with accompanying theme song
» Start a NEW GAME and winds are blowing as the
camera takes in clouds and heavy winds. The scene
changes to a recap of the events of the original
Tales of Destiny where Stahn and friends are
standing before a glimmering pool of green and
he's holding his Swordian Dymlos. He raises it
high and then digs the blade downwards into the
pool which causes the screen to go white. The
cinema fades out and a a young boy runs into a
side-viewed landscape. He calls to his friends who
appear from the left of the screen.
» They're being chased by a predator but when they
run to the right of the screen, another predator
appears with a guttural roar. When all seems lost,
the hero of the game Kyle Dunamis raises his sword
and prepares for battle while the others cower in
fear. The beasts close in with a roar and in the
next scene, a flashback plays where the screen
turns yellow and the hero may be seen lying
sprawled on the ground while his friends stand
over him. Kyle gets up and a short interaction
sequence ensues. Back to the present, the
predators are closing in and one takes a swipe at
Kyle which forces him to take a knee. The other
creature also closes in when a sword swinging
gray-haired hero rushes in from behind and smites
one of the creatures down.
» The friends turn around and greet him. It's Loni,
Kyle's "sibling" who grew up with him at Kyle's
mother's orphanage. After a short greeting, Loni
focuses his attention on the other creature and a
side scrolling battle loads where Loni and Kyle
fight the creature. Rush, swing, and grunt for a
few seconds and the beast is dispatched. The
battle sequences are fairly impressive because the
characters fill up nearly half the height of the
screen and the action runs fast and fluid.
» After the battle, the friends exult but Kyle has
been hurt and he collapses while Loni yells out
his name. In the next scene, Kyle is shown taking
a ride on Loni's back who is bringing him back to
the town of Cresta. They joke around a little bit
and control is handed over to the player after a
short dialogue sequence.
» Movement may be made through the analog nub or
D-pad. Kyle moves around quickly and seemingly
slides across the landscape.
»
Immediately northeast of the entrance to Cresta is
the orphanage's sleeping quarters where soup's on the
stove and a bushel of tomatoes may be seen near the
oven.
The bunk beds for the orphans are lined up neatly in
rooms towards front of the orphanage. The entrance
to each room features a stone slab that's rough
hewn. It's a cozy place to house kids.
» A little farm is situated below the
orphanage and northwards from there is a shop
with a functioning water wheel installed in the
building while a river runs through it. The walkway
to cross the river consists of two planks in
disarray with two quizzical chaps standing alongside
them. The heroes can either walk on the planks or
just rush through the water none the worse for wear.
You'll hear a crisp watery sound if you opt to dash
through the river.
»
The town inn is located to the northwest portion of
town. On the roof of the inn, a mama cat and her
kitten may be seen sunning themselves and watching
the fools below. You may enter the inn and
eventually make your way up to the roof via ladder
and find a girl who's standing in front of towels
that are drying on a line and swaying slowly to the
wind.
»
Little white birds fly over the town every once in a
while. Sometimes they'll drop to the ground and walk
around a bit before flying off again.
»
Much of the dialogue between the main characters is
spoken in the game by voice actors.
»
If you head northwest, you'll see a bunch of
chickens hanging around outside a building that's
the Dunamis home. If you go up to one and address
it, it'll squawk back. Goats nearby who are foraging
will do a "baa" when spoken to. Go upstairs to check
out Kyle's room and mama Rutee's room. If you head
out towards the back, the two heroes will surprise
(scare) Rutee who is hanging clothes on a towel. She'll
threaten Kyle's life but expresses surprise when she
sees Loni and gives him a bear hug which seemingly
also threatens his life...
» The small family sits down afterwards and
have a spirited conversation. When Rutee leaves, you
can explore a bit. There's a drip inside the house
which is caught by a basin and bushels of vegetables
are parked indoors. At this point, you can go
upstairs and go to sleep. Immediately, a dream
sequence plays tinged with yellow where Rutee and
Kyle face off against a swordsman. Kyle wakes up
abruptly and screams but Rutee is there by his
bedside. When he tries to doze off again, Rutee
brings out the pot and ladle and bangs them loudly
to rouse him awake once more.
»
To save the game at any time, press the TRIANGLE
button and then highlight the option situated on the
rightmost of the second row at the top of the
screen.
» Tales of Destiny 2 is a beautifully drawn game
with exquisite details and a sonorous song that
plays throughout your early travels. There's zero
chance of the game being released in the USA but a
European version may be possible since Tales of
Eternia sold very well on the Continent.
