NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCS»
The story of Bunshichi Tanba continues in the second
Garouden Break Blow game for Playstation 2.
Bunshichi is a hardened brawler who's always
searching for a challenge against elite fighters. To
this end, he visits different schools to find the
top fighter in each discipline and expertise. When Bunshichi is handily defeated by a
warrior named Toshio Kajiwara, he retreats for a few
years and
eventually returns as a much more powerful fighter
who's ready to brawl once more.
The second Garouden game introduces the Region Damage System where
attacks to specific parts of an opponent's body will
affect how he performs in the battle. Concentrating
your attacks on another fighter's head, arms, legs,
and chest will cause brain concussions, broken
bones, and assorted fractures which limit the
fighter's abilities. As a body region takes on
damage, it'll show up on the body indicator which
turns different colors to indicate trauma. New game modes include
"Tournament" and "Team Battle" to mix up the standard
1-on-1 bouts in the "Story" and "Arcade" modes. For
fighters who need a little practice, the "Training"
mode gives players a chance to test special attacks,
grapple moves, and rocket-powered combos. New characters are
also introduced to join the original cast.

Game Notes
» In the intro to the game, full fledged action
mixes with panels of manga-based action. The various fighters battle
each other in bloody contests where bruisers crack
bones, break necks, stomp faces, and bash skulls in.
The cinema is a mixture of fast-paced moves and bullet time
sequences which may make some viewers flinch or
cringe. Explosions of blood droplets may be
viewed as critical blows are meted out.
» Press START on the title screen and the following
selections are displayed:
STORY
ARCADE
VERSUS
SURVIVAL
TOURNAMENT
TEAM BATTLE
TRAINING
OPTIONS
»
STORY mode only allows the use of Tanba where he
faces off against rivals and important challengers
from the manga serial. Tanba's first battle takes
place on a playground where he faces off against
Chin-Pi-Ra, a white-suited gangster who's got some
skills. As you trade
blows with him, the life bar on the bottom of the
screen eventually moves to
your advantage until he's all petered out and unable
to resuscitate. The next battle takes place in a gym
against Tanba's arch nemesis Toshio Kajiwara.
»
In the OPTIONs menu, players may set match length,
configure the controller, set volume levels, adjust
the screen position, and view 10 fighters in the
game.
»
If you opt for a TRAINING session before getting
into the main modes of the game, you'll be able to
watch 7 training sessions between Bunshichi Tanba
and Ryoji Kubo which are selected from a menu.
»
TEAM BATTLE allows you to choose five fighters and
then each fighter faces off against another fighter
in a 1-on-1 bout. Whoever loses all five fighters
first is eliminated.
»

»
During a match, the outlines of both wrestler's
bodies are shown on the lower-left and lower-right
corners of the screen. Whenever an attack connects,
the damaged area is shown blinking. For example,
thunder a punch on someone's chest and the
silhouette outline blinks in the chest section to
indicate some big hurt.
»
Before a match, the camera takes in the crowd and
pans around before focusing on the fighters in the
ring. Before Hikoichi Kurama gets to grappling, a short animation
plays where he takes a call on his cell phone before getting down to business. To
discipline him, you can perform a crotch-kick during
a match and he'll grab his privates with both hands
before tilting over to the side.
»
The fighting is close, fast, and brutal. Each punch
lands with gravity and critical blows are
accentuated with a tingling sound effect. Since the
battles are basically toe-to-toe without much
opportunity for maneuvering, it's a game of
fast-paced feints, guards, grapples, and rapid-fire attacks.
As a match endures, the silhouettes that represent
each character will turn red and yellow on various body
parts to show the level of damage on them. Red is
critical and means anything could give if more
punishment is smacked on a pained chest or arm.
»
Particularly critical blows are shown in slow-motion
for added dramatic effect.
»
22 fighters are featured in the game as follows:
Shozam Matsuo
Toshio Kajiwara
Bunshichi Tanba

To view the special moves for a fighter at any time,
press the START button and highlight the third
option and press the O button.
»
Select background objects in the stages are
interactive. For example, in one dojo, the windows
may be destroyed but the boxing gloves on the other
side of the wall can't be touched. They don't even
flap when a crushing blow bounces an opponent off
the wall.
