localizes it for the Japanese market. Two DVDs are
included as follows:
Disc 1: Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
The North American version of KHII is retrofitted for the
Japanese market. The spoken dialogue in the game is

game menus and unspoken dialogue are entirely in
Japanese. Highlights include new event scenes, an
updated secret movie, new costumes, new reaction
commands to use, and an actual playable battle
between Sora and Roxas.
Disc 2: Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories
Originally released on the Gameboy Advance, Square remakes the
game for the Playstation 2 and upgrades it with 3D

Game Notes
DISC 1: Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
» Before the title screen appears, black and white
line images of Sora and
Roxas appear before turning into color images.
Sora is the brown-haired boy and Roxas is the blonde
guy.
» The introductory cinema shows shimmering water followed by a swirling
Kingdom Hearts logo that eventually solidifies on
the screen. English text with Japanese subtitles as read by an
English speaker appear as follows:
"A scattered dream that's like a far-off memory"
"A far-off memory that's like a scattered dream"
"I want to line the pieces up"
"yours and mine"
Afterwards, a beach scene is shown where the cast of
characters enjoy a serene moment before Roxas fights off creatures
with the Keyblade and other action-packed sequences
flow into view.
» It is possible to skip the intro by pressing START and
selecting the second option.
» After the introduction concludes, the camera pans across a room where kid named Roxas is
lying on a bed. He gets up and speaks in English but
the subtitles are in Japanese. He says, "Another
dream about him" before opening up the window and
looking out into Twilight Town.
» The first chapter is dubbed,
"The First Day" which introduces the
player to Roxas and his gang of friends. They'll
explore the town and set up the storyline. Roxas
will also get to take on a few small jobs such as
delivering mail to five characters and birds on the
street.
» The dialogue is spoken in English with Japanese
subtitles on the bottom of the screen which makes it
relatively import-friendly. Note however that the
in-game menus and non-spoken dialogue are only in
Japanese and cannot be toggled to English.
DISC 2:
Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories
» In the intro to the game,
Sora is tumbling when he drops into a a dove-laden
dark space. Slowly, the ground that he stands upon
brightens up to reveal a new world. Cinematic
sequences from the game are shown while the theme
song as sung by Utada Hikaru plays.
» Re: Chain of Memories is a remake of the Gameboy Advance game with
animated cinemas, voice acting, and extensive
dialogue to pore through. The voice actors for
Goofy, Donald Duck
and Jiminy Cricket in the early part of the game are
quite good. Donald speaking Japanese with the
familiar rasp is trippy.
» In the beginning of the game after Sora, Donald,
and Goofy have entered Castle Oblivion, Donald tries
to attack a dark figure in a cloak with his staff
but nothing flows forward. The figure explains to
the trio that their skills are no longer available
to them while they are in Castle Oblivion.
Please note there is no English in the game and the
text is
entirely in Japanese.
» A short tutorial precedes the main game where the
cloaked figure teaches you the
controller buttons and moves. The adventure begins in
Traverse Town.
» When battling, cards are automatically used to
trigger both attacks and special attacks. Healing is also
automatic as long as you have a Recover card in your
deck. Since Donald and Goofy cards are in your
possession at the outset of the game, you can always call upon them to
perform special attacks on enemies when you're in a pinch. If you run
out of cards, you will no longer be able to attack
and it'll be time to vamoose. To leave, simply press
up and run against an opening in the battlefield and
a meter will start filling up from left to right.
Once it's full, you're granted an exit.
» Defeating enemies will cause them to drop cards
which may be used to level up Sora and to add to his
deck.
» Later in the early part of the game, you'll meet
up with Pluto, Tifa, and Aerith all in the same
room.
* Similar to KHFM+, save points are designated by
swirling lighted circles.
