NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCS» Luffy
and friends are back for an action-packed jaunt where the
pirates are caught in a tidal event which dumps them
on a lush island. Luffy lands first and creates a
small impact crater upon reaching earth again. His
first task is to find his comrades to make his
party whole again. One Piece Unlimited Adventure
features 3D exploration and puzzle solving where
barriers on the island must be broken or unlocked
before reaching new pathways and areas. Early in
the game, Luffy fishes up a blue orb from the
depths of the ocean which factors mightily in
breaking the barriers.
Luffy may also obtain other tools on the island including a pick
axe to dig deep for buried
artifacts and shatter rocks which are marked with an
"X" scattered around the
terrain. To swing the pick axe like a wizened
digger, players move the Wii Remote in an uninterrupted
forward arc - sort of like when you're chopping an
apple to slice it into two pieces. General
movement is handled through the analog thumbstick
on the Nunchuk while the "A" button on the
Wii Remote
attacks enemies. Pressing the "B" button on the
Wii Remote makes Luffy and friends jump up to higher
levels and crags. A character can also commit
suicide by standing near the edge of a ravine and
jumping into the abyss...

NCS Game Notes & Spoilers
»
Title screen: the entire gang is standing atop a
grassy plateau. Luffy is eating two big mutton
chops, Usopp is standing on a stage performing
while Chopper bounds up and down in front of the
stage. Sanji, Nami, and Nico Robin are seated
calmly while Roronoa Zorro is whacking a huge
weight up and down in the distance. The
blue-haired Franky is bopping. If you leave it
alone and watch it again, everyone's seated
including Luffy and Chopper while Franky is doing
calisthenics in place. This is the camp area that
you'll encounter later when playing the game.
» Leave the title screen alone and an
action-packed sequence plays where the various
characters are engaged in bouts and other kinetic
activities. There's a sequence in the middle of
the animation where Shanks gives young Luffy his
straw hat followed by more serene scenes of the
gang in quieter moments followed by animations of
the enemies. The cinema ends with a fast-cut
sequence showing the eight main characters in the
game.
» As the game opens, Luffy's circus-like ship is
sailing while a seagull flies overhead. On board,
the entire crew is standing around and clowning as
they set up the storyline of the game. Eventually,
Usopp takes out the telescope and looks around -
he sees Luffy and Chopper fishing while Sanji,
Nami, and Nico Robin are standing in a circle and
talking. Luffy gets a catch on his fishing rod and
pulls up a blue orb from the water. Luffy shows it
to Sanji who brushes him off so he puts the blue
orb in his satchel. Next, Luffy stretches his arms
up to the top mast, grabs it, and launches himself
into the lower atmosphere. As he's lofted above,
the orb sparkles and the ocean grows rough. A
massive bunch of rocks rise from the ocean floor
and an instant island appears. Luffy is still
aloft when the island rises and he lands which
creates a crater. Some objects from the ship land
near him including a few boxes, a huge pot, and a
tent.
» Movement is performed through the analog
thumbstick of the nunchuk. Pressing "A" on the
Wii Remote sets up camp when you're in the center of
the objects. The "B" button on the Wii
Remote is for
jumping and A is for punching. Press both A and B
to perform an evasive maneuver. Later in the game,
you'll gain the power to have Luffy jump up and
them blow-up momentarily into a balloon-like
version of himself (Press B to jump and then press
A). To perform a wind-up punch attack, press and
hold the A button. When enemies are encountered,
notice the list of "A" attack commands on the
right side of the screen. Fulfill all of the "AA"
and "A" attacks and Luffy levels up with new
moves.
» Luffy is alone so head off into the island to
figure out where everyone is. Walk to a wall of
blue-light and you'll hear screams and the blue
orb in his satchel explodes with blue illumination
which causes the wall of blue light to disappear.
A rampant bunny rabbit with huge wingspan-style
ears appears and hammers Luffy in the head with a
mallet. A flashback plays which shows the orb was
once owned by a wizard-like old guy and the rabbit
was his familiar. The rabbit then runs off in the
distance and more screams are heard from inside
the cavern. If you walk forward, you'll enter "The
Seaside Zone" where you'll meet a crowd of machete
wielding, uniform-wearing guys. Punch and attack
and they'll be defeated easy as pie.
» Beware of the rocks with orange markers on them.
If you walk near, they'll be triggered and then
explode about 1 second later. Make sure to pick up
the bonuses that appear after they explode.
» Punch a tree and you'll get a blue fruit which
drops from the branches above. Bushes and flowers
may also be attached to unveil bonuses and other
items.
» At the outset of the game, there's no overhead
map to get your bearings so wander around until a
open areas become apparent for your travels. Later
on, as you travel around the island, an overhead
map may be accessed by pressing the "+" button.
» Luffy later walks into a cave and finds Usopp,
Nami, and Chopper being threatened by the
machete-wielding salarymen. After defeating the
foes, a part of the gang is reunited. The blue orb
that Luffy fished up has strange properties...
which Nami sees as a potential fortune if
exploited properly.
» Afterwards, Luffy regains control but to access
any other member of the current party, press the
"-" button on the Wii Remote to access the roster of
characters - remember that only Luffy, Usopp, Nami,
and Chopper are available. The other four party
members must be found and added to the active
roster. You may switch characters at any time to
make them the actively controlled character who
appears on screen. After walking forward a while,
the blue orb begins to glow and strange sounds
emanate from the Wii Remote and the television
speakers. A cut scene plays where Luffy lifts the
orb and spies strange activity inside its glassine
interior. Energize the orb by allocating objects
in your satchel to its well of power. Once filled
to the rim, Luffy holds the orb up again and blue
light bursts from it which destroys the rocky
barrier in front of the party. After walking
outside, they spy a massive dinosaur skeleton on
the beach.
» The blue orb is used to destroy rocks like they
were nothing but it must be energized with plant
matter or urns of items that you find around the
island.
» The dialogue in the game is accompanied by voice
acting throughout the game.
» Enemies gurgle out a disturbing sounding death
cry when killed.
» To save your progress, go back to camp and press
the "A" button on the first option. An image of
Nami writing on a book will appear. Move the
cursor up to the first option and then press A.
» An enjoyable adventure game featuring a well
known cast of characters. The Wii Remote rocking
functions are not apparent at the outset of the
game but once you obtain the proper tools and
instruments, you'll be shaking the Wii Remote like a
man possessed to break things and catch things.
Instruments are mapped to the directions of the
D-pad and shown on the active object area located
on the lower-right side of the screen.
