NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCS» The
Dog is a popular toy series in Japan and we've seen
"The Dog" rendered into various plushes, keychains,
and other trinkets. To capture some more of the
consumer dollar, Yukes programs 48 pooches into an
action-adventure game where a dog explores a lush
island in search of a flower with potent medicinal
uses. The game starts off on Dog's home island where
the protagonist receives dire news about his
brother who needs the healing properties of a
special curative flower. The only problem is the
flower is only found on a far off island. Luckily,
a pirate dog has recently docked at the wharf and
he's happy to take Dog on a trip to get him closer
to his destination.
Throughout the game, friendly dogs and assorted animals will
help your dog hero traverse various obstacles and
impediments. For example, to scale higher heights, a
giraffe serves as a sort of living crane while
hippos and elephants provide platforms to cross
rivers and crevices that a mangy dog would not be
able to cross otherwise. When traveling from island
to island, some dangers may appear such as snakes. To scare
one away, the Dog
may bark to send it on its way. Movement is
controlled entirely through the Wii Remote. Press the
"B" button and a paw print appears which is a
directional pointer which leads the dog to and
fro.

NCS Game Notes & Spoilers
»
Developed by Artlist International for Yukes.
» Intro: a brown dog with a big head and small
body walks into view followed by images of dogs
sleeping, playing, scratching, and waddling
around. Most of the dogs seem sleepy which is par
for the course when dealing with puppy-like
pooches. The amount of blood sugar needed to
sustain such big heads is probably enormous.
» Start a new game and the camera slowly pans in
on a village with houses that are covered by
multi-colored roofs. A salty pirate dog wearing a
purple hat and an eyepatch comes ashore and
delivers a letter. A bulldog postal carrier picks
the letter up in its maw and rushes off to deliver
it. He comes upon an older dog wearing eyeglasses
and a dog selection screen pops up - choose from
48 breeds by scrolling through a list. As each
breed is highlighted, an image of the dog appears
on the right side of the screen. We chose the
Pomeranian in honor of a fallen pet that we once
knew. Other breeds include a terrier, a pug,
beagle, bulldog, Dalmatian, Chihuahua, and more.
Next, choose the sex and give the dog a name. We
named it "NCSTER". The old grey dog will tell the
courier your name and the postal bulldog runs off.
» In the next scene, your dog is sleeping and
yawns. He shakes a little bit and stretches. The
missus and your baby dog greet you in the morning.
» To move around, press and hold the B button and
a paw print appears. This is your leading pointer
for the dog. Move it in a direction and the dog
follows its path. Walk out of the house and dog
will bound off. Back at the house, the missus
picks up the letter and brings it inside.
» To dig, wag the Wii Remote left and right. To sniff
the air for something, press and hold the A button
and doggie will lift its snout to sniff out
goodies. When sniffing and hunting for buried
objects, you'll have to watch the two indicators
on the bottom of the screen - the signal strength
gets stronger when you're near the object to dig
up. There's something to dig up inside your house,
right outside your door, near the fountain, a
house near the wharf in front of the grey dog, and
an area to the left of the fountain when headed
towards your house.
» If you don't input any motion into the Wii
Remote,
doggie will lie down and rest. It'll then get up
and stretch a little and then repeat the routine
until you move again.
» Once you've dug up all five items, talk to the
dog wearing a blue plaid hat near the fountain and
you'll get a bone and a bottle of milk which is
just what junior needed. Return home and postal
bulldog will greet you and inform you of the
letter he delivered. At this point, you'll be able
to save your progress to memory card. The letter
informs NCSTER that his brother has fallen sick
and his help is needed.
» Night falls and an owl hoots. Walk outside and
two pooches are waiting for you. NCSTER is
dejected and looks up at the sky to see shooting
stars flying across the sky. Inside, the missues
is sleeping and junior walks out into town on his
own. NCSTER confronts his young'un and expresses
his remorse about his sibling's predicament but
junior is wise beyond his years and comforts
poppy. If you walk out to the wharf area,
fireworks may be seen exploding in the distance as
the sound of the waves crash against the shore.
» The sniffing function has been activated again
and you can dig up two seashells near the wharf
and a third seashell near the fountain. Once all
three seashells have been found, talk to the black
dog in the white hat and he'll give you a bouquet
of flowers while the rest of the dogs congregate
and junior runs around like a bounding circus
animal. He eventually tires out and the pirate dog
carries him home on its back. Back at home, the
baby is on the bed and it's up to NCSTER to go on
the pirate ship and look for the special flower to
save his brother.
» In the next scene, the ship is on the high seas
as seagulls fly overhead. NCSTER is near the stern
while a dog crew mans the boat and rigs the mast
and all those other shipmate activities. NCSTER
befriends a blue bird on deck as the ship
continues to sail.
» When you're given control aboard the ship, sniff
out three items on deck and then talk to the dog
wearing a white cap in front of the door. You'll
get a bone and then the ship is shown again
sailing as day turns into night and NCSTER sleeps
next to his blue bird pal. The sun rises again and
the captain of the ship speaks and gives NCSTER a
fishing pole so he can catch some fish. When you
get a bite, hammer the Wii Remote up and down to drag
the fish aboard. If the fish moves too far to the
left of the "catch gauge" shown on the bottom of
the screen, it'll break free. After catching a few
dish, talk to the dog at the bow of the ship and
more time will pass as the ship continues its long
journey. The postal bulldog is aboard the ship
with you so you can save your progress at any
time.
» The next day, sniff out five items on deck and
then speak to the dog with white hat in front of
the door. You'll earn another bone and the day
passes. Rain begins to pour and the seas become
rocky. NCSTER and bird are on deck with the rest
of the crew as creaking and crashing sounds may be
heard in the background. The captain is reticent
to proceed and NCSTER makes up his mind to go it
alone. He plunges into the ocean and is swallowed
by the waves.
» When he wakes up, a dog with bells on its head
greets him. He's been rescued by someone. Outside,
the blue bird circles a bit before flying off.
Explore the town and speak to the denizens. The
two main routes out of the town are blocked until
you accomplish some objectives... one of which is
finding and digging up herbs from inside dog
houses in town.
» All dog towns are apparently similar in
construction and design.
» If you run too fast, the camera can get confused
and not keep up with your pace. As such, NCS
recommends studious movement with the Wii Remote so
the camera keeps its bearings.
