Wii Negima!? Neo-Pactio Fight + Bonus - New Import, In Stock

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCS» The Negima!? animated series was fraught with magic battles, action, and hilarity. Similarly, Negima!? Neo-Pactio Fight is packed with magic battles, action, and some bits of hilarity. Negima Springfield and the winsome students of class 3-A engage in a 3D fighting game where four combatants duke it out with melee attacks, magic, and partners. A cast of 10 main characters and 30 partners are featured in the game including the pudgy agent animals named Motsu and Shichimi.

Players may enjoy a Story Mode or a Battle Mode where a main fighter is selected along with two partner characters. The word "Pactio" in the game title refers to the three types of Pactio Cards (Armor, Cosplay, and Suka) featured in the game which trigger special abilities, transformations, and partner upgrades. For example, if your fighter accidentally picks up a Suka Card, she'll change into a chibi version of herself which is basically a useless warrior without defensive or offensive skills. Neo-Pactio Fight plays well with a Nunchuk + Wii Remote controller combo or you can simply plug in a classic controller to control the fighters old school style. The Omake Mode features galleries of photos, characters, and a music collection.

Bonus Schwag
All preorders will ship with a bonus Magister Negi Magi radio drama CD which contains an episode of Negima!? as voiced as the original cast of the animation series. Update: All bonus CDs have now been given away and new orders placed after 10:33AM EST will not include the CD.

NCS Game Notes
» In the intro to the game, Asuna appears on a card before engaging in battle sequences against other girls. The rest of the cast appears quickly on cards before the title screen pops into view.

» Press the "A" button on the Wii Remote and the following selections appear:

STORY MODE / Choose a character out of ten available leads and two partners. Go through a unique story line with the character and fight when bouts pop up.
BATTLE MODE / Play a 1-player game against 3 COM-controlled fighters or up to 4 players may engage in bouts - select a character from 10 available fighters along with 21 partners.
OMAKE MODE / Assorted image and sound galleries which are titled "Reports," "Music Room," "Students," and "Photos."
OPTION / Set sound volume levels, Wii Remote vibration toggle, reset defaults, etc

» In the OMAKE Mode, the selections in the Music Room, Students, and Photos sections are all available at the outset of the game and you can listen to music tracks or view photos and profiles of the students in the game. The Reports section lists the point scores for the various fighters if you've used them in the STORY MODE or BATTLE MODE.

» Voice acting accompanies the dialogue and introduction sequences in the game.

» The STORY Mode for Negima starts with an exasperated looking Negima standing on a street while the hum of a city washes over behind him. The chirping of birds may be heard in the background as well. Asuna runs up and screeches, "NEGIIIII" and Negima politely replies with her name. After a bit of banter, she runs off and the weasel Chamo joins Negima for a little conversation. A strange contraption is shown which rattles and rumbles a bit before the Dreamcast logo spins above it. Next, two girls appear and talk., A strange slug-like creature appears afterwards and damages the machine. The next day, Negima and Chamo are talking again and something is amiss. Two students appear and there's more banter. In the first battle of STORY MODE, you get to choose two partners to help you. The selection screen for the partners shows the different girls as SD Chibi versions of themselves.

» The first battle takes place in the school library with the shelves appearing in the background.

» If you play a single-player game in BATTLE Mode, the COM controls the other three fighters. Before the battle, you can choose two partners to help you in the fight from a pool of 21 girls. After choosing the girls, press "1" on the Wii Remote to start the combat and shenanigans. Before the battle starts, all four combatants are shown in each of the four corners of the fighting stage. Once the game begins, use the thumbstick on the Nunchuk to move around and press the "A" button to perform a melee attack or the "B" button to activate a special power. To jump, press the "C" button on the nunchuk and your heroine will leap straight upwards. To jump backwards, press the "Z" button on the nunchuk.

» It's possible to knock opponents over the side of the stage but it's also pretty easy to get knocked out yourself. Pactio-cards that trigger power-ups and power-downs appear on the level for pickup. There's one power-down card which changed our girl into what looked like a poorly drawn cat. She returned to normal after about 20 seconds. Items also appear randomly on the playfield which may be picked up and thrown at opponents such as blue garbage cans.

» Battles are split into two portions - the first portion is a basic attack sequence where you fight everyone on stage. The second portion of a basic battle is the collection bonus points by destroying objects or picking up coins. Whomever earns the most points wins the bout. Battles segue seamlessly into the next battle in a nonstop routine and the only demarcation between one battle and the next is the announcement of the winner. As the battle continues, some players will drop out and be defeated when their HP drops to nil on the circular gauges that ring their portraits on the bottom of the screen.

» Penguin-like creatures with pointy beaks and floppy arms will appear in later levels of the BATTLE MODE which serve to hurt anyone close enough to them.

» After the first battle is won on the conventional square stage, Level 2 takes place on some sort of industrial plant where the girls fight on a stage with spinning turntables that rotate at a healthy clip. This particular level is multi-tiered with conveyer belts located in the back of the stage which the girls may leap upon to do their fighting and strategizing.

» As the fighters range near and far on the battlefield, the camera pans in and out to take in the action.

» From what we've seen this morning, the game doesn't make use of any Wii Remote motion sensitive functions. It's a conventionally controlled game with the nunchuk's analog thumbstick for movement and the buttons on the Wii Remote for smacking attacks.

» White-colored steamed buns may be picked up to recover HP.

» The action and movements of the girls are somewhat reminiscent of Sailor Moon with lots of twirling, dainty attacks, and magic power that blazes through the level. The action is competent but won't set the gaming world slavering for more. It's primary appeal is to fans of the Negima series with lots of artwork to view and voices to listen to. As a fighting game on its own merits however, it's routine fare.
