NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
A
new park is being built and a Chibi Robo has been
commissioned to toil as a gardener, groundskeeper,
and guardian. At the outset of the game, a
delivery truck deposits Chibi Robo's headquarters
directly in the park which serves as the base of
operations.
Two tools are used to help the 10cm robot achieve its goals:
» A spraying mechanism which shoots out water
» Boombox with built-in turntable which plays
gracious melodies
Once Chibi Robo is under player control, move it next to the first
flower on the field and play some music. Roll the
stylus around in a circular motion on the virtual
turntable properly and the flower will eject
seedlings onto the field. Water the seedlings and
watch them grow instantly into flowers which may
also propagate their own seedlings. Water those
new seedlings and they'll grow up into plants
which are capable of propagation and so on and so
forth. From there, a veritable garden can be
created by playing music and watering the plants.

NCS Game Notes
» Upon starting the game, you're prompted to
select a save slot from three available choices.
Next, select the color of a flower from five
choices. The game starts with a view of an office
tower on the top screen which rotates into view.
Tap your way through the voiced introduction - the
voice by the way sounds like a Japanese Yoda. An
introduction shows a scientist putting the
finishing touches on a seated Chibi Robo with a
soldering iron. After two applications of solder,
Chibi Robo gets up and does a little dance.
Similar to Chibi Robo's Gamecube incarnation, the
NDS version of the miniature robot measures only
10cm tall and sports an ungainly power cord that
dangles from its backside. The scientist gives
Chibi Robo instructions and directs his attention
to a miniature boombox and a little blue sprayer
that's shaped like an umbrella. Next, the
scientist shows Chibi Robo a flower that's happily
swaying back and forth on his desk underneath a
lamp.
» Once control is handed over, use the d-pad or
the face buttons (X is up, A is right, B is down,
and Y is left) to move Chibi Robo over the two
items on the desk. Tap on the center of the touch screen
to lift the objects and then tap on one of the
eight placeholders on the sides of the touchscreen
to add both objects to Chibi's inventory. When
storing items, Chibi's tin dome opens up on top
and the object is easily injected into his teeny
self. Next, you can run over to the flower to
inspect it and watch it dance but we'd rather
check out the two items we just picked up:
Sprayer: Select it from Chibi's inventory
and pump it by moving the stylus up and down on
the touch screen. The sprayer holds an unlimited
amount of water with which to squirt sustenance on
plants.
Boombox: Once selected, a turntable appears
on the touchscreen. To jam, move the stylus in a
circular fashion around the turntable and Chibi
throws the boombox upwards and starts dancing like
a maniac with arms waving and legs kicking.
Chibi's dancing is what makes flowers happy.
» Three icons on the right side of the touchscreen
allow the player to manipulate the camera, focus
on Chibi, and the last one makes Chibi pick up his
power cord and plug it into an outlet that's
nearby.
» When dancing and moving the stylus on the
turntable, the stylus has to stay on the
touchscreen until the dance ends. Lifting the
stylus will cause Chibi Robo to stop his dance. If
you swish the stylus quickly on the turntable,
Chibi performs a quick dance but if you move
slowly on the stylus, Chibi will do a slow-motion
dance that's evocative of the "Robot." To perform
well in the game, move the stylus in a consistent
circle around the blue ring portion of the
turntable and you'll see streams of white musical
notes flow from Chibi's head. You can also tell
that you'll swishing properly by the quality of
the song that plays when Chibi is dancing. If it
sounds distorted, you're swishing the stylus off base. If you
perform well, you'll earn a score between 70 and
100 and a sprightly chime. If you perform poorly,
you'll get a score below 70 and a discordant sound
that sounds like a trombone.
» To proceed, go up to the plant and perform a
dance and score 100. The plant will then shoot out
three seedlings which are little plants. Next, spray water on each of the
seedlings and they'll grow into plants and flowers
that are just as big as the original flower. When
the scientist sees your skills, he'll recruit you
into the Park Patrol Corps to help build a park
that's under assault by a polluting fiend.
» The scene changes to an assembly line where
Chibi Robos are being churned out by the dozens
and they're sent into trucks which then take them
to their destinations so they can perform their
jobs. One truck stops and deposits a Chibi Robo
which is soon activated, energized, and introduced
to the world of Park Patrol.
» Once Chibi Robo is loosed in the park, a fourth
icon is added to the right sidebar - a control
which shows an overhead map of Chibi's
surroundings. Since the grounds are barren and the
park is in the process of being built up, your job
is to dance in front of the first flower that you
meet so that it propagates seedlings which are
ejected outwards. Next, blow water on the
seedlings so they grow and then dance in front of
them so they can eject more seedlings. From that
point, a single flower eventually produces enough
additional flora to cover the entire landscape of
the park. At the outset, you'll have to keep an
eye on Chibi's battery on the upper right corner
of the top screen. Taking care of flowers is hard
work and saps a lot of juice. If Chibi runs out of
power, he'll collapse and will be brought back to
the miniature Chibi Robo facility automatically
for recharging and regrouping.
» After the first day when the park is growing
nicely, a figure enters the park that night and
surveys the progress being made. He takes a close
look at Chibi Robo HQ before hopping away. The
next morning, a rooster crows and Chibi Robo's job
awaits him once again where flowers must be made
happy and propagate so that they blanket the
fledgling park.
» The count of your flowers is kept in H.Q. so you
can see your progress. Note that there are only 3
digit holders which sets the limit of flowers at
999.
» If you dance between two flowers and score
successfully, both flowers will propagate
seedlings. Once you get the flowers in the third
portion of the first field to propagate, you'll be
congratulated and butterflies can be seen flying
around in the new garden. After that, a new
selection opens up in the Chibi Robo H.Q. which is
an upgrade center. A higher capacity battery may
be purchased for 990 credits to increase Chibi
Robo's battery to 150 from 100.
» The next day after the first flower assignment
is completed, move Chibi Robo towards the bridge
behind the flower beds and he'll spot a bicycle
across the river. A basket mounted to the
handlebars may be used to carry items. The bridge
to the other side is in disrepair but Chibi Robo
doesn't yet have the tools to fix the wooden beams
that make up the bridge.
