The boys and girls of Fate Stay Night are reduced
to cel-shaded chibi renditions of themselves and
battle each other on expansive arenas. Four
gameplay modes may be enjoyed as follows:
Story Mode
Select a character from a roster of 7 familiar faces such as
Shiro Emiya, Saber, Lancer, Rider, and Caster and
play through their unique storylines. An
additional 14 characters may be unlocked on the
roster list.
Free Battle
Enter the Colosseum and bout it out with user-selectable
conditions of battle that are toggled at the
outset of the game.
Network Battle
Link up with three other players and engage in chibi warrior
fisticuffs.
Tiger Dojo
Learn how to smack and attack opponents by watching a
non-interactive video sequence which shows Saber
running around and beating up hapless opponents.
Insets are shown on the right side of the screen
to teach gamers which buttons do what as
demonstrated by an obedient Saber and an excitable
announcer who narrates the tutorial.

NCS Game Notes
» The seven playable characters in the STORY
MODE at the beginning of the game are: Shiro Emiya,
Saber, Rin Tosaka, Sakura Mato, Lancer, Rider, and
Caster.
» The controller and button commands are as follows:
SQUARE / Attack
CIRCLE / Jump
CROSS / Dash
R-TRIGGER / Block
L-TRIGGER / Center camera
» Pressing the R-Trigger by itself blocks oncoming
attacks but offensive magic attacks are ignited if
the R-Trigger is pressed in conjunction with a face
button. Movement is handled through the analog nub
and the d-pad is used to move the camera around.
» Select any character in STORY MODE and a voice
over narrates the scrolling text while a static
image of a whirling galaxy serves as the background.
If you play as Shiro, he wakes up and is greeted by
Saber before he heads for school. Their dialogue is
accompanied by voice acting. After a bit of banter
in class, the first battle starts where Shiro is
armed with a wrench and is pitted against three
opponents. Run around and smack the wrench at Fate
Stay Night characters to beat them up. Shiro's fifth
battle is against Archer in a 1-on-1 battle where
the first one to knock the other's HP to zero wins.
An alternate way of winning is by grabbing the
yellow orb and then powering up and laying down a
death blow on the opponent.
» Three gauges are tied to each character during a
match: Health, Magic, and Endurance. Using the Dash
move (X-Button) will deplete a character's
endurance.
» When Shiro hits someone with his wrench, the sound
effect is that of metal clanging upon metal.
» Bowls of rice littered around each level may be
picked up to recover HP entirely.
» In a normal fighting stage, grabbing the yellow
orb doubles the Magic gauge. Fill it up by grabbing
a red-arrow object that appears and you'll be able
to perform a powerful attack by pressing the
L-TRIGGER button.
» In some stages, the goal is to wait for the
yellowish orb to appear and then grab it. Hold onto
it as long as you can since your score slowly
increase while it is in your possession.
» If you're one of two fighters who remain standing
after a match, you win. Each fighter is allowed
three falls where HP is depleted entirely before
it's game over. It is advantageous when playing
against the COM or human players to stand back and
let the three other fighters deplete each other's
health before swooping in and devastating the crowd
with your attacks.
» In Rider's STORY MODE turn, her first battle is a
one-on-one against Archer. The second battle pits
Rider and Archer in a collaborative effort against
Kirei Kotomine. The second stage features
teleportation circles which may be stepped upon to
whisk oneself away to another location on the level.
» At the conclusion of a character's Story Mode
where all of the fighting challenges have been won,
a short intermission plays before the credits roll
on the right side of the screen. Images of the
characters from the story appear on the left side of
the screen. A song plays as well. The ending credits
run for a few minutes and is surprisingly lengthy.
If anything, it helps to convey the amount of work
and staff that is required to put together a game
nowadays.
