Game Synopsis
«©NCS»
Hanzo, Fuuma, Rasputin, and the rest of the
World Heroes gang have been around for a
long time. The original game bowed in Japanese
arcades on July 28, 1992 and joined the flood of
fighting games that were making their way to
market at the time. While not wildly successful,
SNK drove the World Heroes brand to four
incarnations before the final game - World Heroes
Perfect - was released on May 25, 1995. The four
games included in the collection are:
World Heroes
/
Originally released on July 28, 1992
World
Heroes 2
/
Originally released on April 26, 1993
World Heroes 2 Jet /
Originally released on April 26, 1994
World
Heroes Perfect /

Twelve years after WHP thrilled dedicated fans with its motley
assortment of characters, SNK Playmore collects
all four World Heroes and stamps them onto a
single DVD. In addition to the original games, SNK
also adds a Death Match Mode to the first two
World Heroes releases and allows players to
challenge each other on the Multi-Matching BB
Service. Similar to previous Neo Geo Online
collections, a character color edit function is a
standard feature where any fighter's color scheme
may be changed according to your whim. Finally,
the soundtracks for the four games may be toggled
from the default Standard to Arrange versions.

Game Notes
» The
title screen features rounded and cheerful
interpretations of the fighters from the World
Heroes games. They're cheerier than we remember
them. Leave it alone and the original World
Heroes game starts up where Hanzo and Fuuma do
their best to bash each other out. Continue to
leave it alone and the game title will appear
again followed by a demonstration of World Heroes
2 and so on and so forth. Viewers who watch all
four games play out in demo mode will notice the
improvements in visual impact and presentation as
the series evolved through the years.
» Press START and the familiar Neo Geo Collection
menu format pops up. The top row consists of the
logos of all four games in their gaudy
multi-colored glory. The selections on the bottom
row are:
MEMORY / Save data to memory card, Load
data from memory
card, and toggle the Auto-Save mode
CONTROLLER / Adjust the controller button configurations for
either joypad 1 or joypad 2.
VIDEO / Set the screen type, move the screen on
its X and Y axis, and adjust focus.
NETWORK / Hop online to do some internet linked
battling against like-minded World Heroes fans.
SOUND / Choose Stereo or Mono, set BGM to Normal
or Arrange, adjust BGM volume level, and listen to 159
pieces of BGM.
COLOR EDIT / Change the colors of any character in
the game to alternate hues of your choosing.
PRACTICE / Play a NORMAL or DEATH MATCH
practice game against a dummy COM opponent for the World
Heroes games.
» Either the D-pad or L-Analog may be used to
control the fighters.
» The default controls are:
SQUARE / Punch
CROSS / Kick
TRIANGLE / Throw
» The blood runs ruddy for all four games.
» The loading times are brisk and user friendly.
WORLD HEROES
» World Heroes features eight characters and a
very simple character selection screen. After
selecting your character, you can choose to play
NORMAL mode or DEATH MATCH mode. The shadows for
each fighter flicker fiercely and the presentation
is sparse. However, the control is very good and
we were able to make Fuuma do his full arsenal of
moves with ease. Throwing a shuriken with either
the D-pad or L-Analog in the usual semicircle
fashion was fault-free.
» Players may choose EASY, NORMAL, HARD, or MVS
difficulty modes.
» When Hanzo or Fuuma is beaten, his lose portrait
shows his face all puffed up and paunchy.
» The Death Match Mode for the original
World Heroes adds two oil slicks to the ring
which causes the fighters to slide around. The
fighting arena may also be surrounded by electrified
barriers or spiky walls. When knocked
into them, the opponent loses additional HP and suffer
the effects of being fried or barbed.
» The bonus game in World Heroes is an exercise
where the hero punches a block of stone so
it becomes a sculpture of a he-man woman hater.
WORLD HEROES 2
» World Heroes 2 bumps up the character roster to
a total of 14 fighters with familiar faces joining
new ones such as C. Kidd, Mudman, and Brocken. The
Death Match mode for WH2 gives both fighters a
joined HP bar which moves left (red) or right
(blue) as the fighter takes damage. For example,
in our match this morning, Erick fought against J.
Max and when Erick won, the shared life gauge on
the top of the screen was all red. There's also an
old man referee who stands in the background and
does a countdown whenever an opponent gets knocked
down. On one of the Death Match stages, a mobile buzzsaw
charges through the floor and it should be hopped
over unless you want to take some damage. On
another Death Match stage, a robot of some sort
hovers over the battlefield and discharges
electric blasts to smack anyone unlucky enough to
be standing under it.
WORLD HEROES 2 JET
» World Heroes 2 Jet was a 100-Mega Shock game
from back in the day. Two new difficulty modes are
added: Beginner and Expert along with the cardinal
four. The number of fighters increases slightly to
16 with Jack from the U.K. and Ryofu from China
joining in on the action. Jack sports an orange
mohawk and fights with Wolverine-ish claws whilst
Ryofu is a big bruiser who attacks with a spear
and blows fire from his mouth after a sip of
flammable liquid. The controls are smooth and
moves are a breeze to pull off. When a fighter is dizzied,
ducks fly around his head.
WORLD HEROES 2 PERFECT
» World Heroes Perfect is the most technically
advanced game in the collection. All six
difficulty modes are included. The roster goes up
to 18 total fighters with Gokuu and Neo-Dio added
to the previous roster. The controls feel very
flighty and quick... as if the characters had no
weight to them. It feels like the game is moving
at 1.5X or even 2X speed. In a sense, we can call
this World Heroes Perfect Turbo. We didn't have time to dig up and
check out the MVS version of WHP to compare but we
don't remember it like this. WHP also does not
have a Death Match Mode and is only the standard
game.
