Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
The fusion of the board game and the traditional RPG
is complete with Sting's new Dokapon Kingdom
which features elements from both genres.
Players flick a spinner to determine movement range
and then trudge the corresponding number of spaces
on an expansive play board where a castle serves as
centerpiece. Each space contains a treasure chest,
an item icon, a monster encounter, or another event
that is triggered upon landing on it. Treasure
chests invariably contain varying amounts of gold
pieces while Item spaces unveil crystals, weapons,
spell books, or other objects which are useful to
the enterprising adventurer. Enemy encounters are
simple affairs where two combatants stand facing
each other and dole out attacks or magic with single
button presses.
Since RPGs commonly use the mechanic of leveling up and character
attributes to determine the abilities of a hero,
Dokapon Kingdom stays true to convention and
utilizes experience points to serve as the basis for
a character's level and capabilities. In addition to
contending against the monsters on the board, the
other players in the game also serve as opposition
by casting deleterious spells against each other.

Game Notes
» The intro introduces the king, a princess, and
the four heroes of the game along with enemies,
supporting characters, and a muscle man. There's
also a battle against a green dragon that ends in
folly.
» Press START and the following options appear:
NEW GAME / Begin a new board game with
adventure elements
LOAD GAME / Resume a game from memory card
data
OPTIONS / Toggle Dual Shock, select Stereo
output, etc
» Begin a NEW GAME and a little green-haired angel
floats on the bottom of the screen and serves as the
host of sorts. Game play options for the number of
players are as follows:
2P
3P
4P
1P vs COM1
2P vs COM1
1P vs COM2
» After making your selection, you'll get to enter
the hero's name in Katakana, Hiragana, or English.
We named him Turkey!! (yes, we used all 8 spaces) in
honor of the holiday yesterday. Next, choose a male
or female redheaded character, select job, color
scheme, eye shape, and continue doing the same thing
for the next two characters in the game. Once
finished, press the button to randomly set the order
of the players and the game loads up.
» In the next scene, a castle appears in the center
of the screen when an earthquake rumbles, sending
the king inside into a fright with flailing arms and
knocking knees. Monsters appears outside and emerge
from the circular board game spots. Inside, the
Princess and King decide that heroes are needed to
quell the disturbance and the three characters from
earlier drops into the playfield.
» We tested a 1P vs COM2 game and depending on the
order randomizer, the COM will take control of the
two characters and move them. When its your turn,
the method is movement is by spinning a dial on a
wheel which determines the number of spaces that you
may move. Press the "O" button on the arrow icon and
again to stop it. We hit "5" on our first spin and
got to move five spaces to the left where we spun a
randomizer again to win 500G. The COM2 followed in
our footsteps and spun the randomizer to win 300G.
On our next turn, we spun a "6" and headed
northwards where the hero landed on a weapon icon
and got to spin for a sword. As the players make
their way around the playboard, every landing spot
features a spin where elixirs, shields, spellbooks,
crystals, and other items may be won.
» On some circles, you'll get to fight creatures in
simple one-move attack sequences per turn. That is,
you can only make 1 move per turn the bout will take
up your turns until it is concluded. Creatures have
the option of giving up upon which time, your hero
wins automatically. Defeating creatures will garner
experience points which are used to level up
attributes. Battles are shown in
» At the end of every round, the players winnings
are tallied up and ranked. You can also save your
progress to memory card after each round.
» When you reach the castle, the king hands out 6
attribute points which may be allocated per your
discretion.
» Shops on the playboard may be entered to purchase
items and upgrade weaponry.
» Spells may be used to weaken opponents in the
game.
» Whenever a character levels up, all HP is
regained.
» When a character is defeated, two angels circle
downwards and escort the cadaver from the screen.
Your character is then replaced by a coffin on the
playboard. The other characters will then continue
playing even if they're controlled entirely by the
COM. Within 2 turns however, your character will be
resurrected.
