Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Sega's popular Mushi King game turned beetles into
warriors and their new play-alike titled Kyouryuu
King does the same for dinosaurs. Originally
released in arcades and made into a television
series, Dinosaur King uses the same
rock-scissors-paper card-based battle system from
Mushi King and features cheery characters with
ebullient attitudes and the indomitable spirit of
youth.
The storyline centers around two lads named Ryuuta and Rex who
stumble upon a plot by Alpha Gang who plan on going
back into time to hunt dinosaurs and use them to
take over the world. Ryuuta and Rex befriend two
mighty dinosaurs and use them to counter Alpha Gang
and throw a monkey wrench into their aspirations of
domination.
Bonus Schwag
All orders for Kodai Ouja will include a bonus card.

Game Notes
»
In the prologue of the game, we're introduced to
Alpha Gang which is led by a white-haired old guy
named Doctor Sonoida. He sports a bushy white beard
and wears a white lab coat.
His facial structure is drawn in such a way as
to connote evilness. The word "Sonoida" is a
scrambling of the Japanese romaji word for dinosaur,
"Dainaso."
»
At the
outset of the game after the introduction, you can
choose to play as Ryuuta and his triceratops Gabu or
Rex and his
carnotaurus named Ace. You'll notice that Ryuuta
wears a red headband with horns protruding from the
front to show his solidarity with the triceratops
species. When needed, the horns serve double duty as
night lights. After selecting either hero, their
dinosaur control mechanisms
are shown and the first battle begins against
Dr. Sonoida.
»
If you chose Ryuuta, your triceratops named Gabu
is pitted against a raptor and a short tutorial
ensues. Dr Reece Drake provides the emcee duties and
walks you through the basics of the game. Attack are
chosen by tapping on an icon with the janken symbols
for rock, scissors, and paper. Tap on rock while
your opponent throws out scissors and the two
dinosaurs will walk towards each other. Gabu ducks
an attack and then swings its tail around to knock
the raptor down. Next, follow the instructions and
tap on scissors as the opponent chooses paper and
Gabu lunges forward to knock the raptor down and win
the bout.
»
In the next scene, Alpha Gang are commiserating
and making plans. Following that, Ryuuta and Rex are
inside a laboratory where workers are milling about.
Talk to all of them and then speak to Reece again.
An automatic sequence players where the boys appear
in the southeast area of the lab and enter the
portal that awaits. They blink out of the lab and
into town where Reece keeps in touch with the boys
by way of a visual comm-link.
»
Explore the town and speak to the folk standing
around to get some clues. Next, head north and speak
to the guy wearing a cap. He'll step aside and allow
you passage out of town where a crew of Alpha Gang
members are waiting. A battle opens up where Gabu
goes up against a raptor.
»
If you both throw out rock, both will take about
40 points of damage. Throw out scissors to its paper
and it'll drop down to about 50HP. Finish it off
with paper to cover rock and it'll be destroyed.
You'll return to town where your reward is a fossil
unearthing mini game where the stylus is used to
scratch the surface of some rock to reveal the
skeleton of a dinosaur underneath. Once unearthed,
it'll be brought back to life and entered into your
bestiary.
»
Losing a match doesn't mean the end of the game.
You'll just return to town and resume your adventure
without any major penalties or restrictions. This is
understandable given that the janken battles are
entirely random and it would be too onerous to start
all over again from scratch after losing a
completely random walk. Despite the seeming
randomness of the battles, there are discernible
patterns from time to time. For example, if you
guess correctly with scissors to start the bout, you
can probably do well by following up with paper and
then rock. In that same vein, if you guess
successfully with paper, you can occasionally follow
up with rock and then scissors to win a bout with
three consecutive hits.
»
Traveling takes place on the touch screen while
the top screen depicts a monochrome map of the
world. Your current location is indicated by a red
blob.
