NDS Final Fantasy IV - New Import, Restock on Monday

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX» The original release of Final Fantasy IV was on July 19, 1991 and our records show that we sold the game for US$155. For a single cartridge. Before crying bloody murder, please recall that back in the day, Super Famicom cartridges were routinely priced at JPY9800 and JPY12800. Import gaming was an expensive hobby back then.

Sixteen years after Final Fantasy regaled gamers with its tale of tragic heroes and woe, Square reinvents and remakes the adventure with bold orchestral music, beautifully rendered cut scenes, and the "Active Time Battle" system. The game is eye candy from the get-go where a rendered sequence shows Cecil Harvey and a contingent of Red Wings aboard an airship and headed home. They've just stolen a crystal...

NCS Game Notes
»
Final Fantasy IV DS features voice acting, urgent music, and animated monsters that attack. The game has been revamped with a major cosmetic overhaul but the basic storyline and game script remains the same.

» Plug in the game card, power up, and a shimmering crystal appears on the screen while familiar Final Fantasy music plays. Watch as the crystal spins and catches the light. Continue watching and a new cinematic intro plays which shows Cecil Harvey with both hands planted on a railing while Rosa Farrell approaches from the background. She's hesitant but eventually joins him. The other characters are introduced in action sequences. The music is a stylized rendition of the classic Final Fantasy theme song which sounds great.

» When the title screen appears, there is only a "NEW GAME" option that can be chosen. The game begins with Cecil on board an airship along with a number of Red Wings. A flashback plays which shows the theft of the Water Crystal from Mysidia when Cecil's reverie is broken by a soldier who informs him that monsters are winging their way towards the airship. An encounter starts where two Float Eyes are pitted against Cecil but they're no match against his sword strokes. The battle system is dubbed the "Active Time Battle" where time continues to flow while the battle goes on. A gauge on the touch screen empties after each attack and then slowly refills. Before another attack can be struck, the gauge must be at full capacity. While waiting for the gauge to fill up, the enemy monsters can attack.

» After the encounter, the Red Wings return home and Cecil brings the crystal to the King. This sequence is shown through a 3D cut scene.

» Movement in the game may be directed by way of the D-pad or by tapping the stylus on the touch screen which shows the general layout of the local area. Tap on a direction and Cecil will obediently run towards the tap point. After leaving the King, the touch screen map shows the location of treasure chests and stairways but not the soldiers within.
