Wii Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Wii Ketteiban - New, In Stock

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX» The 2007 Japanese professional baseball season concluded a couple of months ago and Konami has been working diligently since then to collect all of the year-end data for the "Ketteiban" (translation: "Definitive" or "Final") edition of Powerful Pro Yakyu 14. Player stats, team winnings, and player rosters have all been updated to reflect real world numbers and names at the end of the 2007 season.

Checking out the game this morning, there's not a lot of discernible differences between Ketteiban and the original Powerful Pro Yakyuu 14 that we tested a few months ago. There's a new scenario mode dubbed "Dream Japan" where players guide a Japanese baseball club to the top of the world rankings. The other modes hearken from previous games in the series including the "Success Mode" and a helpful "Practice Mode." Fans of the Pro Yakyu series will find the game familiar with a play-by-play announcer, a password feature, updated team uniforms, and improved player AI for fielding. The Pro Yakyuu games utilize a comical visual style but the action is solid and the controls are top notch. They're our preferred vehicle of choice whenever we get a yen for some video baseball.

Sound

» An announcer does the play by play and the sound of the stadium is lively. The formalities before the game starts are similar to other baseball games.

» In our Puro Pawa test game this morning, we hit a home run on the first pitch by whipping the Wiimote forward when the ball flew to the plate. The next batter grounded out and the next two batters popped out to center field. The batting is surprisingly easy to connect since there's no targeting cursor like the PS2 version - just swing the Wiimote and more often than not, you'll make contact.

» To bunt, point the WIimote downwards and the batter will hold the bat down. Pitching is trickier because you're supposed to wave the Wiimote in a sweeping motion to throw pitches but spotting the pitch isn't precise. However, we were able to strike out the first two batters in the first inning while the third hit a pop-up fly to left field. The fielding is automatic and controlled by the computer so your job is basically just hitting and pitching by waving the Wiimote.

» In the Puro Pawa game mode, base running for your onboard hitters is automatic and they'll take extra bases on their own volition.

» Replays for snazzy moves or plays is shown in a short animation.

» In our first game this morning which ran for three innings, we won the game 4-0 with 8 hits.

» After each game, you're ranked on performance. We got a "D" grade and the amount of calories burned up according to the game was 45 kcal.

» The advertisers in the game reads like a who's who of big industry and include Coca Cola, Kirin, Toshiba, Uniden, CSK, Seiko, Toyota, Mazda, Mizuno, Suzuki, Sunstar, Orico Card, Secom, Xylitol, Canon, Casio, Ryobi, Suntory, TDK, Panasonic, Manulife, Pioneer, and Konami themselves. The advertisers change in each stadium but some are the same.

» All 12 professional teams are represented along with all stadiums.

» When there's a pitching change, the new pitcher rides in on a little car with a pretty girl by his side.

» After each game, a reporter interviews the manager and a player from the winning team.
