NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Flight-Plan's Poison Pink strategy-RPG
for the Playstation 2 borrows ideas from the famous
MegaTen series. The game features a demon collection
system where monsters are defeated and then inducted
into your party. At the proper outset of the game, one of
three heroes may be selected - a girl named Tage, a
knight known as Orifen, and a priestess named Hersh
who are all accompanied by their respective partners.
As the intro to the game explains, a leader of knights named Orifen
is set to be wed to Princess Runarshe of the Saint
Baldamian empire. However, on the day of their
marriage, she disappears. At the same time, a
hellish stone structure known as Besek appears at
the outskirts of the kingdom. It's suspected that
the Princess has been spirited away by demons so
Orifen lurks into Besek "The Hell Prison" in an
effort to rescue his betrothed. The King of Saint
Baldamian also invites others to investigate Besek
and perhaps discover the mysteries within. Along
with Orifen, a magic user named Tage and her pet
wolf answer the call as well as a cleric named Hersh
who's been sent by the Church to spelunk the depths
of Besek.

NCS Game
Notes
»
Somber piano music starts once the game boots up.
The operatic wailing comes soon afterwards.
»
Press START on the title screen and the following
selections pop up:
PROLOGUE / Begin a new game which starts off
with a CG rendered introduction
OPTION / Adjust general volume level as well
as the volume levels for BGM, SE, and Voice. The
voice acting in the game may also be toggled ON or
OFF to improve loading times.
»
Start a
new game and Tage (pronounded Tay-gee) who's riding
atop a white wolf with reindeer antlers disembarks
and walks up to a rocky wall. She pulses her hand
but in the distance, a woman screams. Tage homes in
on the disturbance and walks in on a demonic monster
that's about to grab a princess named Runarshe. One
of the demons leaps and is about to strike Tage when
wolfy jumps in from the side and knocks it to the
ground. Another demon appears ready to attack but
Tage opens up her magic tome. Fade out.
»
An
isometric playfield opens up with Tage and Lucky the
Wolf positioned on the lower portion of the screen.
To the northwest is the demon from earlier who
stands prone with three of its compatriots to the
northeast. A short tutorial teaches players the
movement and attack scheme used in Poison Pink. Use
the d-pad or L-Analog to choose either Tage or wolf
and press "O" to select the character. Next, a menu
pops up which shows the available options such as
move, attack, use item, view stats, etc. The range
of movement is demarcated by blue squares which fan
outwards once the movement command is selected. To
end turn, choose the last selection on the menu and
then choose the orientation of the character.
»
When an
attack or magic blast is chosen, a short cinematic
sequence boots up where the action is shown in full
animated glory along with the usual battle cries and
chortles.
»
When a
demon is defeated, the word "Overkill" appears on
screen and the demon is bound by chains and then
held down by something that looks like a purple
shaft which pierces it. Once it's bound, the demon
can be captured and brought into your party by way
of Tage's tome. The capture option on the menu is
the fifth selection from the top. When the capturing
process is selected, it's accompanied by an
animation where Tage opens her book which brims with
eldritch sparkles and the demon is lifted up into
the air and inducted. If you don't want to capture
the demon, striking it once it has been bound will
destroy it.
»
To
defeat the last demon in the first level, you'll
first have to break its guard. To do this, use Tage
to perform a physical attack on him with the magic
tome. She'll swing the book like a slicer and break
the demon's protection. Once broken, magic attacks
will be able to hurt it. The final demon can't be
captured and it'll disintegrate after being
defeated. The demon's dust will then flow onto
Tage's tome and form a sigil on one of the pages.
After the battle, a very short cinematic sequence
plays which is accompanied by heavy music.
Afterwards, you'll be prompted to save your progress
to memory card.
* Once the save is completed, the title screen
appears again with the following selections:
New Game / Begin a proper adventure with the
choice of three heroes
Load Game / Resume a game from memory card
Option / Same option selection screen from
the Prologue menu
Gallery / View 103 pieces of artwork spread
out over 9 pages but all are blocked by a purple
mandala at the outset. When changing pages with the
L or R trigger, you can catch a glimpse of the works
before they're blocked.
»
After choosing the play a NEW GAME, much of the
introductory cinema that plays is dictated in
English until it's time for the King to speak which
is entirely in Japanese.
»
After the intro, you'll be able to play as Tage,
Orifen the Knight, or Hersh the Cleric.
»
Whenever Lucky is adjacent to Tage and she's
attacked, Lucky will rush in front of her to take
the blow in her stead.
»
Voice acting accompanies the written dialogue in the
game. Lucky speaks with a deep male voice.
»
The movements of the main character are jittery when
traveling. For example, Tage looks like she's
flitting around the screen instead of running.
