Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»The raucous crew of Taiko no Tatsujin is at it again
with a new Nintendo DS game which includes a story
based adventure mode and another collection of songs
with which to bang your drum to. Another innovation
is the concept of rivals which adds antagonistic
drama to the game. As the story goes, players trek
to seven islands to meet and beat various opponents
in rhythm based drum action. Perform up to par and
you'll continue onwards but falter and your journey
ends. Abruptly.
When the game first starts up, a total
of 36 tracks are playable but Namco touts a total of
50 songs in the game so 14 tunes must be unlocked.
Similar to the first Taiko DS game, a pair of
drumsticks is included inside the game package so
you can hit the virtual Taiko in style.

»
When the game starts, a tambourine, a snare
drum, and a standard Taiko are selectable. When
striking the touch screen, the sound that issues
forth from the speakers differs for each instrument. An
additional 12 percussion instruments may be
unlocked as you progress through the game.

The Taiko may be customized in terms of color (face,
body, rims) and accessories such as hats and body
adornments. A length of rope tied into a loop is
available as a hat in the beginning but a large
amount of other headgear can be unlocked. Once the
Taiko is outfitted, it'll appear with its new
accessories on the upper left corner of the screen
for each game. After playing a few songs,
accessories that are unlocked include a bird that
may be perched on top of Taiko and a panda-color
scheme.

Guest appearances by the cast of Gegege no Kitaro,
Engine Squadron Go-onger,
Fukou Mori, Idol Master, Moji-Pittan are bonuses.
For retro gamers, the pixel hero from the Famicom
Spelunker
game also makes an appearance. When playing the
Spelunker song, the little cavern explorer is shown
running along while a bat and a ghost float nearby.
If you do well, Spelunker is eventually surrounded
by mounds of treasure.
