NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Back in 1990, a little company by the name of
Intelligent Systems developed and released a Famicom
(8-bit) game titled Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryu to
Hikari no Tsurugi which translates to
Fire Emblem: New Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light.
In the ensuing years, Intelligent Systems went on to
remake the game for the Super Famicom and released
another nine prequels and sequels for the Gameboy,
Gamecube, and Wii. It's about that time again.
Intelligent and Nintendo have announced a second remake of the
original Fire Emblem game which is titled Fire
Emblem: Shin Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi. The
word "Shin" after Emblem means "New"and the game
features updated graphics, touch pen tactics, and
the ability to play Wi-Fi games against challengers.
For those unfamiliar with the Fire Emblem brand,
players take control of troops who battle other
troops or complete mission objectives on
battlefields.

NCS Game Notes
»
The game may be played with the D-pad or the
touch pen. To move, tap on your protagonist Marusu (aka
Marth) and his available range of movement will
light up. Manual control of the action takes place
on the touch screen but each encounter is shown on
the top screen where attacks, counterattacks, and
even counterattacks may be viewed. The first stage
is straightforward where the hero has to run to the
right, beat back three enemy soldiers, and then move
to the north where a higher-level soldier awaits.
» After defeating him, move on top of the throne and tap on the first
option that appears to prompt the next event in the
game where a cleric named Erisu holds a short
conversation with Marusus. Afterwards, you'll be
able to select a save slot from three available
spaces. Next up, a Prologue plays which pits Marusu,
Abel, and a new knight named Furei against a
contingent of enemy forces that approach from the
south and the west. There's a couple of archers in
the enemy ranks as well.
» Once the enemies are all defeated, move Marusu to the pulsating
square on the bottom of the screen and tap on the
first option that appears. The next event will play
where a white-haired paladin named
Jeigan
speaks with Marusu. A red-haired cavalier named Cain
appears soon afterwards and joins the two. The next
scene shows Erisu still at the throne room where
Marusu left her. The next skirmish starts up soon
afterwards where Marusu and crew face off against a
bunch of brigands.
» Whenever Marusu levels up, his stats are shown popping to their new
levels on the touch screen.
» Cavaliers such as Cain and Abel are mounted on steeds and can
either attack enemies up close or they can throw
their spears at an enemy from afar.
» If you just want to get on with the tactical action in the game and
forego all of the conversations and interactions,
press the "START" button to skip the drama and
theatrics.
» After you've moved a character and ended his turn, press the
L-Trigger to toggle quickly to the next character.
