NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
A lad named Sigma Kurogami who bears a slight
resemblance to Harry Potter serves as the
protagonist in Square's new action RPG. As the story
goes, the Kurogami clan has long protected Japan by
guarding a gateway that looks like a creaky
Grandfather Clock. Should the members of the
Kurogami lapse in their duties, demons will
infiltrate the world of Man. When something
unexpected happens, Sigma has to venture forth and
solve mysteries and murders which are packed into
individual chapters.
Sigma is more of a detective rather than a fighter so his
battles are fought by a partner named Neon who
attacks using a deck of action cards which are
flipped out during encounters. Players roam around an isometric world
while occasional animated sequences move the story
along.
Early reservations will include a bonus DVD in
30% ratio. The disc contains game previews and
commercials for Sigma Harmonics.

NCS Game Notes
» Rotate the Nintendo DS 90° counterclockwise
because the game is played in "book" format.
» Tap the title screen and "New Game" or
"Continue" may be selected.
» Start a new game and a prologue plays which
introduces Sigma and the Grandfather Clock.
» The clock that the Kurogami family protects is
no ordinary timepiece. It's a towering monstrosity
of a clock which is about two stories tall. When
Sigma stands in front of it at the outset of the
game, he's 1/10 the height of the clock.
» Movement may be performed by twiddling the
D-pad or by tapping on a location on the touch
screen. Sigma will go to the spot that is being
tapped.
» Voice acting accompanies the dialogue in the
game.
» Once
the
proper game starts, a "Menu" button on the upper
right corner of the touch screen may be tapped to
reveal the following options:
● Search
● Equip
● Cards
● Reason
● System
The options are bi-lingual with the Japanese on top and English
below. Many of the action buttons in the game are
also bi-lingual.
» When Neon first appears, she runs onto the
screen and yells out, "SHIGUMAH." The camera slowly
pans from her feet to her head for dramatic effect
before she begins a conversation with Sigma.
» Neon's first battle pits her against two
flying creatures. When we first checked out the
attack system, we thought it was very poorly
designed because it was unnecessarily convoluted.
Here's the gist:
1) A total of three attack and/or action cards are
shown on the touch screen with gauges on top of each
card. The gauge must be full before a card can
be utilized.
2) Neon appears on the other screen with adversaries
around her.
3) A radar scope appears on the lower left corner of
the left screen which shows Neon's orientation by
way of a highlighted arc. The enemies appear as red
dots which are generally out of range of Neon's arc.
4) To attack, Neon has to be facing her enemy.
However, she's usually facing away from said enemy.
As such, you must make Neon face the enemy. We did
this by tapping on the center card on the touch
screen which makes her flail, turn, and attack an
enemy that's nearby.
» Roughly 45 minutes into the game, trouble
rears its head when a cataclysm wreaks havoc on the
city and destroys the big Grandfather Clock.
