Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Embark on a light-hearted interactive adventure with
the To Love Ru Trouble gang which
features conversation, spot-animation, and a
smidgeon of voice acting.
That's not all however.
There's a mini-game in each of the 56 chapters
including a vertical shooter that's based on Magical
Chase and a touch-exercise where Princess Lala's
buttocks and legs are tapped with the touchpen to rid her
body of little contagions. While she's being tapped,
she'll make loud sighing sounds as she's relieved of
the bugs that are plaguing her.
There's also a
fairly challenging pseudo-rhythm game where boxes
and groupings of boxes are tapped just as an
expanding outline reaches the perimeter of a box or
group of boxes. When playing the outline-box game, a
polygonal representation of Lala can be seen
exercising in the background in short red shorts.
Once you've completed a couple of chapters, you can
exit back to the main menu and view Princess Lala in
her Deviluke costume. Rotate her with the D-pad and
focus in and out with the "B" and "X" buttons. Four
other girls are also viewable and rotation-friendly.
The game is broken up into episodes. The first
episode shows the kids on a bus when a storm
kicks up. They're on their way to a vacation spot
and the story revolves around the shenanigans that
occur on the trip.

Game Notes
» The original Magical Chase from 1991 was a side
scrolling shooter but the To Love Ru version is an
overhead-viewed vertical shooter. The witch in the
game is a brunette as opposed to the blonde heroine
named Ripple
from the original.
Some enemies
release silver coins that may be shot to turn them into gold coins which
are worth more when collected. The firing scheme is
user-friendly where there four NDS buttons change
the witch's orientation so that she rotates in the
direction of the four cardinal buttons. For example,
if the witch is facing forward and you're firing
with the "X" button, she'll always face upwards.
When enemies attack from the right side of the
screen, press the "A" button and she'll rotate so
that she faces the right.
Keep your finger on the "A" button and
she'll continue to shoot to the right. To change her
direction of fire, press either the X, Y, or B
button to shoot upwards, to the left, and to the
south respectively. To shoot diagonally, hold two
face buttons in the direction you wish to fire in.
Power-ups may be picked up to boost the witch's
firepower to a double-shot as well as a spread-shot.
Despite being a mini-game in a collection of
mini-games, we were pleased with the overall quality
of the Magical update.
» Two other mini-games we got to play this morning
before we had to meet our update deadline included a pillow throwing fight and one where thick
vines are tapped with the touch pen to stop them from
grabbing a hapless maiden.
