Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Ichigo and Rukia lead the cast of Bleach on another
3D fighting game designed by Treasure for Sega. The
basic storyline is based on the Arrancar Saga where
three factions go to war. Two
fighters face off against each other on expansive
battlegrounds which provide enough space to run,
dash, and in the case of one winged fighter, fly. In
addition to the one-on-one fighting action, team
battles are also possible in 2-vs-2 tag team challenges.
Battlefields where combat takes place
include a parking lot at night, an arid desert area,
and a darkly lit location that's dotted with crags
which is best described as forlorn. The Wi-Fi option
allows to online connected fighters to battle each
other in split-screen.
As mentioned earlier, Bleach Versus Crusade was developed by Treasure for
Sega so collectors of all things Treasure have
another game to add to the library. The developer's
game design sensibilities and superior coding skills
are in evidence with a responsive fighting game
that runs fast and fluid.
Early preorders will ship with a bonus Bleach Versus
card calendar which features 7 cards decorated with
artwork to count down the months (2009).

Game Notes
» The cinematic introduction to the game starts off
as a moody affair that's composed of static images
as well as images with spot animation such as waving
hair and blurry motion fading. Once it gets going
however, full animation and livelier images pepper
the screen.
» Voice acting accompanies the dialogue in the game.
» A training session starts the STORY MODE off where
Ikkaku Madarame guides the player through a series
of actions by using the Nunchuk and Wii Remote. The
"C" button is the jump button and swishing the Wii
Remote in a jerky motion will cause Ichigo to slash
out an attack. The "A" and "B" buttons on the Remote
will cause Ichigo to fire off a projectile attack
and perform and thrusting-forward-attack
respectively. Pressing the "A" or "B" button while
simultaneously pressing the "Z" button gives either
attack an added boost. If Ichigo is in mid-air after
jumping and needs to land quickly, simply press the
"C" button and he'll stomp downwards like a stone.
» Three camera angles are available and may be
toggled by pressing the "1" button. The default
camera position is located directly behind the
protagonist.
» After the training session, Ichigo faces off
against Shinji Hirako in a dimly lit parking lot at
dusk. There's only one round and after Shinji's
defeated, the story branches off into a number of
chapters with a whole cast of characters that moves
the story along. The second battle pits Ichigo
against Yammy who wears a jawbone necklace that's
the only remaining part of his Hollow mask. Despite
Yammy's imposing stature, he's very easy to defeat.
The third battle gives the player control over
Yoruichi against Yammy. Even though Yammy's not a
very good fighter, he does perform a mega-blast in
the third stage which is sorta like Goku's
Kamehameha attack. However, it's ridiculously simple
to sidestep it as Yammy stands there shooting off a
laser that would probably take out a star cruiser.
Chapter 7 brings Ichigo to the classroom where his
brief moment of normalcy is interrupted by Rukia and
gang. The Espada make an appearance in Chapter 8
which is followed by another training session with
Ikkaku.
» The VERSUS MODE allows you to choose a primary
character and a supporting character from a roster
selection wheel. A total of 14 fighters are
available at the outset of the game as follows:
● Ichigo Kurosaki - Hero of the Bleach serial
● Uryu Ishida - Glasses wearing player in default
white frock
● Yasutora Sado - Bruiser with a shock of brown hair
● Rukia Kuchiki in a resplendent fuchsia robe
● Renji Abarai - Lieutenant with spiky red hair
● Ikkaku Madarame - Bald-headed guy with a
three-segment-nunchuk
● Orihime Inoue - Blonde bombshell with big boobies
●
Toshiro Hitsugaya -
White
haired impish dude
● Byakuya Kuchiki - A nobleman with white and black
hair
● Kenpachi Zaraki
-
Eyepatch
wearing player with spiky hair
● Mayuri Kurotsuchi - Masked man with blue hair
● Yoruichi Shihouin - Exotic dark-skinned lassie
with violet hair
● Shinji Hirako - Sports a blonde bowl haircut and
carries a Hollow mask
● Yammy - A member of the Espada with a jawbone
necklace
» To call upon your partner in the VERSUS MODE,
press down on the D-pad and he'll appear and mount a
short but spirited attack on your opponent. To
switch to the partner entirely, press up on the
D-pad so that the primary character becomes the
backup support. Thanks to Treasure's superior
programming skills, battles in VERSUS mode are fast,
fluid, and daunting. Players can slash, call upon a
partner, and then dash away from a counterattack in
smooth, smooth motion.
» Items may be purchased at Kisuke Urahara's shop as
long as you have the necessary funds.
» The GALLERY MODE features portraits and facial
expressions of the characters you've played as well
as images of locations that you've already fought
upon. You can also listen to the BGM (42 tracks) and
sound effects (321 samples) featured in the game.
