NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Konami released the North American version of
Dance Dance Revolution X a couple of months
ago but the Japanese get to enjoy the game as well
this week. New to the series is the multi-player LAN
Battle Mode (Party Mode) where four Playstation 2 consoles may be
linked up via network cable so that eight players
can dance simultaneously. The "Street Master Mode"
features the background stories of 14 characters who
compete against challengers in order to move their
stories along. Konami also introduces "Shock Arrows"
in DDRX which are directional cues that must be
avoided.
The Japanese version of DDRX contains over
60 songs including Bemani classics such as "Butterfly"
from SMILE.dk and "Dub I Dub" by Me & My.
Flipping through the track list this morning, we see
that SMILE.dk is represented thrice - in addition to
"Butterfly [2008 X-edit]," Konami has also included
"Boys [2008 X-edit]" and "Koko Soko [2008 X-edit]."
The Pet Shop Boys' "Always on My Mind" makes the cut
and if you play the song in the standard Game Mode,
you can watch about 1/2 of the original video that
aired on MTV over a decade ago.
Other notable tracks: Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry"
as covered by Purefocus and "Trickster" by Nana
Mizuki.

NCS Game Notes
» The title screen features the same graffiti-style
logo featured on the game cover. If you leave the
title screen alone, the game will go into demo mode
which teaches dancers how to play the game. The text
on screen is in Japanese but the narrator speaks in
English with a grungy dude twang.
» One of the dancers in the game (Zero) looks like
Dante of Devil May Cry fame.
» Press START on the title screen and the following
selections pop up:
Game Mode - Select Single Play, Versus Play,
or Double Play (one man, two control pads)
Street Master Mode - Pick a dancer and live
his/her life on the dancing competition circuit
Workout Mode - Lose weight and burn up
calories by creating a workout regimen
Training Mode - Set the difficulty level and
learn how to play DDR with helpful cue lines above
the arrow cues
Edit Mode - Create new step charts with a
simple icon-based editor that requires a Dual Shock
Party Zone - Link up to four Playstation 2
consoles together for a dancing party
Records - View the high scores for the
various game modes
Options - Adjust sound, video, controller
settings, and view production credits
Information - Get pass the purplish clouds to view
data and details on the game/modes

» Characters in the game at the outset
▪ Afro
▪ Emi
▪ Rage

▪ Alice
▪ Julio
» We played a game with "Always on My Mind" by the
Pet Shop Boys but the video cuts off halfway. The
imagery in that one is perfect 80s MTV because it
makes no sense and there's a Zebra in there for no
reason.
» Select sayings in the game
▪ C'mon homes, select your music
▪ These tracks are off the hook, yo
▪ Pop lockin' beat droppin' this place is rockin'
▪ These beats are fresh, yo
▪ Aw man homey, these beats are the bomb diggy, yo
▪ Excellent choice, guvner
▪ DDR, 10 years and we still got da beat» The
motif in the game appears to be clouds since they
appear between songs.
» To exit back to the initial boot screen at any
time, press both SELECT and START buttons
simultaneously .
