A lad named Orwell and his childhood companion
Charlotte are patrolling the woods when they see
smoke billowing above the tree line in the direction
of their village. They race home to find the entire
town under assault by enemy forces. Fireballs rain
down on the houses and everything's aflame.
Furthermore, the King has been assassinated and the
enemy forces now turn their attention to Orwell and
Charlotte...
Takt of Magic is a real-time strategy game where the Remote is used to move
the player's party across
battlefields to engage enemy forces. There's no conventional
attacks on the part of the protagonist Orwell and
his offensive moves are entirely magical in nature.
To activate spells, some simple maneuvers through
the Nunchuk and Wii Remote are performed to shoot
fireballs, set up barriers, blow out wind attacks,
and even heal party members. Later in the game,
traps may be set to trigger when enemies step upon
them. A rune/sigil system is used to activate
magical effects which requires that the Remote be
moved in the shape of such as a reverse "Z"
(barrier), a crescent (conical magic blast) or an
upward pointing arrow (arcing fireball). A total of
eight runes are available and two runes may be
doodled in sequence to create new and powerful
magical effects. The most difficult rune to draw
looks like a pretzel...

Game Notes
» The intro to the game features the hero Orwell
performing a bit of rune writing to throw out a
magic blast.
» Three save slots are available which may be
personalized with your Mii.
» A lad carrying a crescent-staff named Orwell and a
blonde girl named Charlotte are walking in the woods
when they spot smoke in the distance billowing above
the tree line. The music turns dire and the two run
in the direction of the fire. Their village is under
attack by fireballs that plummet from the heavens
and the town folk are running for their lives. We
soon see the aggressors are a ragtag bunch of
monsters led by a wizard-type who's shooting
fireballs from his staff.
» When Orwell and Charlotte arrive, two villagers
run towards them but a fireball obliterates the two
into nothing. Nada. Orwell gets a bit perturbed but
there's no time for reflection since they're soon
beset by a gang of seven jumping creatures that sort
of look like Puyos if Puyos had red tails. Orwell
suddenly starts glowing and he lifts up his left
hand while he's encased in a column of white light.
A tutorial starts afterwards which teaches players
on the basics of rune writing. If you scribble a
reverse "Z" sigil (well, you can doodle anything)
with the Remote, Orwell will shoot a blast of
conical wind force that levels the Puyo-ish beasts.
Next up, some hammer-wielding forces will emerge and
you'll be able to write another "Z" sigil to cause a
pair of massive boulders to rain down and roll over
the hammer-armed enemies. Still later, a group of
thick and bulky giants will head towards Orwell and
Charlotte but scribble a little something and a
series of fireballs will decimate their ranks.
» After the tutorial, Orwell and Charlotte are
surrounded by enemy forces but a spiky-haired wizard
named Robert saves the day by blasting them away
with elemental force. Afterwards, Robert teaches
Orwell the basics of spell casting.
» To activate a spell, you'll have to tilt the
Nunchuk upwards and then press "A" on the Remote and
then draw a semi-circle and release. Next, tilt the
Nunchuk downwards and then aim the onscreen reticule
towards a target and press "A" again. Orwell will
fire off a blast of magic which may be directed by
tilting the Remote to the left and right.
» To move Orwell, highlight the cursor over him and
then press both "A" and "B" buttons simultaneously.
You can then move the cursor to a target area on the
screen and he'll ramble on over.
» The first mission in the game takes place in the
burning village and Orwell has to rescue two groups
of people by walking up to their respective houses
and destroying the burning obstructions that are
stopping the people from escaping the infernos.
» Orwell and Charlotte reunite afterwards to face
off against a group of enemies but Robert manifests
himself in the middle of the face-off and the
enemies run away. After a short conversation, Robert
leaves and Orwell and Charlotte run off into the
distant. The first chapter concludes.
» The entire first training scenario may be replayed
if so desired.
» The second chapter begins with the two heroes in
the burned out village and they're standing inside
the skeleton of a destroyed house. A group of
giggling enemies appear and Charlotte attempts to
stop any further bloodshed but she's whacked down by
the lead enemy beast. The next battle is simple
where you're to follow the enemies to the northeast
part of the map and then blast them with about three
attacks to destroy the entire group.
» From there, Orwell travels on an overhead map to
each new battle which is preceded by a bit of
dialogue and an overview of the area map.
