PS3 3D Dot Game Heroes - New Import, In Stock
NCS Product Synopsis
Update: November 06, 2009
«©NCSX» A few years ago, Banpresto produced a whole line of toys and trinkets based on dot-designs featuring old school Nintendo characters. Tomy also released a series of toys dubbed ".s" or "Dots" where pegs were punched into boards to create dot-graphic designs of retro-game characters. Dots were big and they're making a comeback once again this year in From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Touted as a conventional RPG with an unconventional graphical style, From Software uses uniform component cubes to create every character and object in the game world for a striking visual impact. Most modern game designers generally try to make their characters appear somewhat lifelike and smooth with no hint of the frames and pixels that make up the hero or heroine. From Software goes the other way and makes sure that pixels and blocks are clearly evident in the game.

If the intention was to pay homage to the 8-bit games that old-timers grew up consuming, then they've succeeded in spades because the references and tributes are all there. From the in-game menus to the sound effects to the layout of the towns, From Software shows love to the RPGs of yore but with newfangled gloss and polish.

Background Story
In the beginning, the land of Dotnia was flat and two-dimensional. In those simple times, six wise men protected Dotnia with the magic of six shiny orbs. Life was good in the kingdom but evil arrived in the form of a demon named
Onikis and his minions. The forces of evil were full of guile and captured the wise men and secreted the orbs away. Things were looking bleak but salvation came in the form of a hero named "Warrior" who retrieved the orbs and locked Onikis away.

The years passed and life was good once again in the kingdom but still two-dimensional. Flat. The King of Dotnia sensed the tedium amongst the bumpkins and decided that there would be evolution by way of powerful magic. Flat 2D towns and villagers would spring up into lush 3D Lego constructs worthy of Playstation 3 gaming.

And so it was. However the transformation from 2D to 3D has awakened evil. A squirrelly dark priest has begun his incantations and workings to awaken the demon Onikis and monsters have begun to swarm the land. Four heroes are called into service to beat back the monsters and stop the priest from wreaking havoc on Dotnia once more.
