Climax Heroes W features 14 Kamen Rider fighters
from the Heisei Era which began with Kuuga from 1999
and includes Agito, Ryuki, Hibiki, Kiva, and more.
Similar to the PS2 version of Climax Heroes,
fighters can use conventional punches and kicks but
standard four-hit chain combos are also possible
along with alter-ego combo chains. Game modes
include "Survival Mode" and "Battle Mode" along with
a "Gallery" mode which contains 3D models of the
Riders and a collection of finishing moves which
last a few seconds each. The Wii conversion of the
game features Nunchuk + Remote control where the
Nunchuk moves the Rider around and the buttons and
D-pad on the Remote launch attacks and dash moves.
In one of our "Survival Mode" games this morning, we
chose Hibiki and put him through the paces against a
number of challengers. Hibiki is beloved in our
offices because he breathes purple haze and smacks
opponents with a pair of batons.

Notes
» The introductory cinema is
exciting because the music has a driving beat and scenes of Kamen Rider vs Kamen Rider are shown in quick cuts. The
various Riders featured in the game are also shown in
dramatic fashion. The little movie ends with a group shot of
the Riders underneath the game logo.
» Press the "+" button on the title screen to reveal the
game modes which are:
Climax Mode - A story mode where only Double W is available at
the outset of the game and the other Riders are locked Battle Mode - Fight a procession of Riders in bouts where
each round lasts 90 seconds; Best of 2 wins Survival Mode - Choose a Rider, select a special attack, and
battle Riders in infinite time rounds one after the other Training - Select a Rider and pit it against an inactive
Rider to test attacks, combos, and punch/kick sequences Gallery - View 3D models of the Riders, View Battle Cards,
check out in-game battle sequences (A lot of stuff is
locked) Option - Adjust volume, save/load data
» The Riders featured in the game at the outset are
as follows:
» The first stage in Climax Mode pits Double W against three Gelnewts who fight one after the other. They might've had a
chance if they ganged up on W. The second opponents are a
total of four Worms who fight in sequence and look like
bipedal lizards. The third challenger is Magma Dopant and so
on and so forth. Magma has the distinction of having one of
the worst costumes we've ever seen in video games.
» Seven stages may be chosen to fight upon including an area
that looks like an abandoned warehouse with support beams on
the left and right of the stage.
» The Nunchuk and Remote are used in conjunction to control
the Rider. The Nunchuk moves the Rider around while the
buttons on the Remote activate punches and slashes. The
D-pad on the Remote makes the Rider dash around the screen.
To jump, push up on the Nunchuk's analog stick. If using
Blade, push up on the analog stick to make him leap upwards
and then push down on the Remote's D-pad to make him perform
a blazing downwards kick that crackles with electricity.
» When Hibiki wallops an opponent with his batons, it sounds
almost like Taiko no Tatsujin. His purple breath attack also
does 6 hits of damage if an enemy is up close.
» Ryuki has a spectacular special attack where he hops on
top of a mechanical dragon and lays waste to an opponent.
