Tales of Graces features the "Style Shift Linear
Motion Battle System" which is just a convoluted way
of saying "Slashing with two attack styles"
where Asbel and company can switch between two types
of combat skills. Namco touts Nintendo DS linkage
where mini-games may be downloaded from the Tales
software for portable play.
Early preorders will ship with a bonus Tales of
Graces Special DVD and a Costume DLC card in 50%
ratio. The 50% ratio means that Namco will give away
one set of bonuses for every 2 copies of the game.

NCS Game Notes
» The introductory cinema introduces the main cast
of characters as happy children sitting in a meadow
but they're later depicted as somewhat sullen teens
holding weapons. War tends to do that.
» After starting a new game, youll be able to modify
game parameters before going into the adventure. The
story starts with the lead character Asbel standing
by himself on a field and the sound of running water
may be heard nearby. The call of nature is also
around him as birds tweet and sing. Asbel is still a
young kid at this point. Asbel's younger brother
Hubert walks up and the two have a short
conversation. Hubert has blue-hair while Asbel has
reddish-brown hair - if they had a sister, she'd
probably sport green locks. Control over Asbel is
handed over shortly after the siblings finish their
talk.
» The Nunchuk moves Asbel around and the "A" button
on the Remote is the action button. To put it to
use, walk ahead and locate the black treasure chest
on the left side of the screen. Open it with a tap
of the "A" and get a reward. A beast is romping
around the field so you'll want to kill it. Run up
to the creature and an encounter will start. Asbel
can be moved around the battlefield in all
directions and hammering away at the "A" button will
perform consecutive strikes on the wolf. Hubert is
controlled by the COM but he gets in there as well,
striking and slashing like a little brother should.
» After the initial battle, Asbel is shown smiling
and throwing out the thumbs-up sign while Hubert
looks like he needs to sit down. We noticed that
Hubert's carrying a tree branch as his weapon while
Asbel holds an ornate sword.
»
Move towards the right and a fountain of healing may
be found which replenishes HP. More wolves may be
encountered as the brothers explore some more but
the creatures are easy to evade if you're not in the
mood for fighting. Enemies can be dizzied by
smacking them but they can also hunker down and
block attacks. To do your own blocking, press and
hold the "Z" button to blunt oncoming strikes.
» To save your progress to memory, run up to the
gleaming crystal and press "A" to select a
save-slot. A total of 29 slots are available.
» Keep moving the brothers to the north and they
chance upon the seaside. They exclaim their awe at
the sight and Hubert spots a young girl lying on a
field. At this point, an animated sequence plays
which shows the initial encounter between the
brothers and a girl named Sophie who has purple
hair. A butterfly flies by and Sophie starts to
follow it. She almost walks over a cliff in slow
pursuit of the butterfly before Asbel grabs her hand
and saves her from certain death. The brothers
introduce themselves but Sophie doesn't seem to
remember her name or much of anything else. Her gaze
falls upon a flower on the field they're standing
upon and Asbel decides to name her after a purple
flower that he's fond of. The butterfly later
returns and rests on Sophie's outstretched hand
before flying off. Sophie joins Asbel's party
afterwards and the three explore the fields.
» Despite having no memory, Sophie can fight and
joins the brothers in smacking wolves and bees
during enemy encounters. In one of the encounters
shortly after Sophie's recruitment, you'll learn how
to perform a sidestep move in battle. Press and hold
the "Z" button and then move the analog thumbstick
on the Nunchuk to the left or right for an evasive
maneuver that's also useful to get around a creature
who's blocking against forward attacks.
