2) Koihime Musou
3) Shukufuku no Campanella
4) Tayutama - Kiss on my Deity
The name recognition of the games in
Twinkle Queen is pretty much non-existent
in North America but the girls are somewhat
attractive, can throw a punch, and up
to four players can join in on the fighting
action. That's good for at least 3 copies sold.
Twinkle Queen is a 2D fighting game where two
combatants face off in front of a static
background. In addition to the default one-on-one
fisticuffs, a four-player option is also available
so that four combatants can engage in a battle
royale as long as four Nunchuk-and-Remotes are
available.. When four she-devils are fighting all
at once, the screeching, yelping, and exclamations
that burst from the audio speakers create a
cacophony that might arouse annoyance in listeners.
Bonus Schwag All preorders include a bonus Twinkle Queen Secret CD-ROM (SKU:

Game Notes
»
The introductory cinema features the 12 girls from
the game along with their names.
» The movement of the girls in the game is fluid but
the girls themselves look stilted and stiff.
» Press "A" on the title screen and you'll be
prompted to enter your name in kana or hiragana.
You'll also be able to enter your name in English if
so desired. Once you've entered your name, the
following selections appear:
STORY MODE... Select a girl and a teammate and fight
other pairs of girls
VS MODE......... Up to four human players can battle
each other in Single, Team, or Royal Battle
ALL BATTLE..... Choose a fighter and battle a
procession of challengers in best-of-two-round bouts
SURVIVAL........ Face the girls in 1-round matches;
health does not replenish between matches
TRAINING........ Practice your skills by choosing a
fighter and a supporter and battling the CPU
OPTION.......... Game Setting, Button Setting, Sound
Setting, and Entry Name Change
SCORE RANKING... View the top scores of the 12 girls
in the various game modes
WIN RANKING....... View stats on how many times each
girl has won a battle
DATA BASE........... Data and images of the girls;
The material in the Gallery section is all locked
» In the Training Mode, the CPU can be set to just
stand there (default), continually jump, always
crouch, or attack and defend normally.
» Control over the fighter is possible through the
analog stick on the Nunchuk or the D-Pad on the
Remote. The latter is awkward since the "A" button
triggers a weak attack. The "B" button is for medium
attack, and the "C" button is for a strong attack.
The "-" button taunts.
» Every Game Mode can be played in Single Battle,
Team Battle, and Battle Royal options
» When attacks are chained together a "Rush" meter
appears which counts how many attacks were strung
together. We got a RUSH 7 and a couple of RUSH 5s in
this morning's game testing.
» The character Ameri is a purple-haired girl with
batwings on her back who can perform a spin attack
move where she mimics a mini tornado. At the end of
her spin attack, she dizzies herself and is
incapacitated for about 1 second which makes her
vulnerable to attack. If you've ever wanted to
control an ice skater in an all-girl fighting game,
your dreams are answered with the character Kanon.
She can perform an overhead spin attack where she
smacks her opponent in the noggin with her skates.
It doesn't appear that she can perform a triple
sow-cow however. Sheren from the Koihime Musou game
is particularly elegant when she fights in her blue
dress and perfect posture. A cat girl named Mashiro
attacks her foes with a huge mallet which she swings
with abandon.
» To view the special moves for a character during a
match, press the "+" button and press the "A" button
on the first highlighted menu option.
» When a girl is defeated, a man yells out "Knock
Down" which is accompanied by the words falling onto
the middle of the screen followed by "You Win."
» The cast of characters is as follows (in the order
they appear in the introductory sequence):
Koihime Musou - Touka, Karin, Sheren G-Senjou no Maou - Haru, Kanon, Yuki Shukufuku no Campanella - Carina, Chelsea,
Agnes Tayutama
Kiss on my Deity
-
Mashiro, Ameri, Mifuyu
» NCS fully expected Twinkle Queen to be
disappointing but it's not bad so we'd disagree with
Famitsu's ranking. Milestone probably didn't buy
enough ad space to merit four "6" rankings. The game held our
attention for the morning as we explored the
different options and modes. The cast is odd
but after the likes of Power Instinct, we can
tolerate odd. The game handles well (not clunky like
we had expected) and the controls are good enough
for a Wii fighting game.
Occasionally, you'll pause the game accidentally when your thumb
hits the "+" button on the Remote but that's okay.
You'll live to fight another day. Since it's a
2D fighting game in a 3D world being released at the
slowest time of the year in Japan, Twinkle Queen
won't sell well enough in Japan to engender any sort
of sequel. Then again, stranger things have
happened.
