Red Riding Hood Cha Cha. What a name huh? Every country has their own fairy tales and in our country, we have that little munchkin known as Little Red Riding Hood. Her claim to fame is bringing treats to a bed-ridden grand-mamma and saving her from a big bad wolf. This fairy tale has apparently become big in Japan, with lil Red having her own OVA series and now a PC-FX game. The gameplay in RRRCC is set up like a board game where you move from space to space and then interact with any special events associated with that space. There are specific rules which are outlined in the user's manual that explain what each particular space on the game board signifies. The movement phase is decided with a roll of the dice and each interaction begins with a short animation that sets up the event for you. The game board ranges over grassy terrain and offers divergent paths to take so it is not like a regular board game like Monopoly where you can only go in one direction and in one way. Cha Cha also offers more variety than the standard board game in that you can experience new and interesting scenarios that you can watch on screen as you go along in the game. NEC has found a new way of presenting the interactive movie so that it is not just a straight video clip with some moves that you push or click to execute. That shouldn't really qualify as interaction in a game but it is. Cha Cha changes all this [temporarily] with a fun and light-hearted board game romp.
