Taito's latest in their classic
shooter series brings back the familiar red and silver
airship, the metallic end bosses and the omnipresent
green, hazy shield. A new development in Darius Gaiden is
the ability to capture enemy airships and use them as
side arms and escort ships who serve as additional
weaponry. Think of them as the ultimate power-up,
especially when you capture mini-bosses who are turned to
your side. Your ship can be powered up internally as well
with the usual floating power up icons but the external
hostage ships are awesome to use as your own firepower. Darius Gaiden was released in Japanese arcades last year and its sequel, G Darius is now available in Japanese arcades and it offers shooter fans the same gameplay found in this version with the power-up scheme intact. |
