digio1.jpg (46564 bytes) In the realm of video game accessories, few are as odd or shall we say, as eccentric as the digital camera for the Sega Saturn. In Japan, the Sega Saturn has become something of an alternative computer since Sega has released a keyboard, disk drive and internet browser for their 32-bit console. With the Digio digital camera, Saturn owners can take pictures around the world, or in their neighborhoods and then transfer them to the Sega Saturn 'computer. The Digio is comparable in price to other entry level digital cameras available from manufacturers such as Canon and Nikon. The quality of the photos that it takes is acceptable for images that are posted on the internet (standard 72dpi to 100dpi) but not for professional applications. The suggested retail price of the Digio package is Y29,800 or roughly USD 260.

Aspiring digital photographers may also choose to transfer their pictorials directly to 3.5" diskettes. The data may then be read by a PC or a Mac (Macs can read PC disks inherently) and then loaded into your favorite paint program for image re-touching or sharpening. Digio is a nice idea but one has to wonder what the market is for the Digio in a world of digital cameras with identical if not superior features. It is however a novelty that may attract Saturn owners eager to show that their console can do something the Playstation can't. Or maybe the Playstation just doesn't want to be a digital photo station. NCS can source the Digio camera for our customers that are interested in purchasing one. Our standard warranty will apply for this product. We will not keep any Digios in stock however due to the limited market that it is likely to find. digio2.jpg (33875 bytes)
