Square's long awaited Final Fantasy Tactics is finally available this week for the Playstation. Fans of the Final Fantasy series and strategy games need look no further because this game intertwines the two and does it extremely well. One has to wonder if Square will ever stumble in their ascent to the top of the Playstation publisher list but with its already impressive track record and sell-out games, it stands to top Namco as the PS' shining jewel. Creatures and characters from the Final Fantasy mythos are all represented in this new game and present familiar faces. The combination of magical attacks and strategic battle arrangements is also great and should make this one a massive time consumer. Our highest recommendation.

To the left, our fearless duo calls upon the heavens for a lightning strike against winged adversaries. To the right, a mini-boss flanked by minor-dragons, hoists a spiked shield to ward off incoming pain and hurt. | ![]() |

Discovery of treasure releases radiant shafts of light that shine forth. Special effects and other eye pleasing luminescence are common. Particularly impressive are the many magical attacks that your player characters can shower on enemy agents. Tactics is beautifully drawn and the isometric view of the game is perfect for showing off attack angles and battlefield situations. The hills, valleys, dips and mounts of the terrain are also best portrayed with an isometric view so that you can see all of the action and where everyone is positioned. Tactics features a great storyline, fine graphics and an easy to use view/interface. It also solidifies Square's mighty software line-up that now includes fighting games, rpgs and strategy sims.
