Gals Panic SS
Gals Panic borrows the game concept from classics like Qix and Volfiev. You control a little diamond shaped vehicle which leaves a trail of 'chalk' (I suppose) which you can use to draw outlines of shapes. Your mission is to go around the playfield and form complete shapes such as boxes, rectangles, and other polygons in order to reveal part of the picture for that level. In other words, when you make a square by drawing out it's outline, the inside of it will fill in with part of the whole picture. The pictures are of cute anime girls in casual wear and in swimsuits. Once you reveal a certain percentage of the picture, the level will end and you will get to see what you have wrought. You will then be able to jump to the next level for more polygon creating action. This may sound pretty easy but there are enemies on the playfield who are trying to destroy you. There is a big eye that floats around and flares out little flames to toast you. Then there is a centipede creature that hopes to munch on you as you make your way around the level. It is no walk in the park to build up your polygons and to complete the hidden picture but careful building of polygons should help a lot in finishing a level. Another enemy that you will face is time. If you take too long to draw in a polygon, the line that you are on will start to blaze up like a fuse and the spark will head towards you unless you can complete the polygon you are attempting to make. I enjoyed Gals Panic (liked Qix and Volfiev as well) and I think it is a well executed game with strong gameplay. The graphics are nothing spectacular to look at but the game is fun and very addicting. Cheap players may try to run up 1/2 the screen to fill in a large chunk of the picture but this is not advisable since the centipede will catch onto this trick and chomp on you. Skillful players can build little 'cages' to lure the enemies into. Once the hapless creature stumbles into your lair, you can close the outside of it and destroy the intruder for a special bonus. There are more strategies and tricks in this game which can get pretty deep as there are many ways to build up your levels and many different structures that you can work on to make your life a lot easier. I won't go as far as to post up a strategy guide for a game that will not sell through too many units but perhaps we will add a link for a guide once we get around to that. This 'click' will be highlighted once it is ready. If that 'click' is not highlighted by that link-like blue color then don't click on it just yet.
