Saturn Gundam Gaiden
The first Gundam game for the Saturn was a side scrolling platform action game where you went from left to right and fought with a cadre of enemy robots and mecha. There was also the occasional fight with a space ship or a really big vehicle. This new version of the Gundam game leans more towards the SONYPS version of Gundam with its 3-D environment where you can walk around and fight in three dimensions. The perspective is from a first person view and the battle sequences can get very up close and personal. The graphics are rendered in good detail but seem to get a bit pixelly as you get very close to the enemy mech. The close combat doesn't get to a point where it plays like Toshinden but more like say, Reverthion where there is a distance that is maintained and you can also use lasers to hurt your opponents instead of just armor plated punches. The storyline that is present in this game helps keep everything together and give the battles a little more purpose than if you were simply dropped off on an enemy installation and rumbled over everything with no sense of direction other than to destroy everything in sight Like the other Gundam games that have come before this one, Gaiden should do okay due to the popularity of the license and the name.
