| Re-releases of games are almost never done in the USA market. Occasionally, a game is re-released at a lower price point but never a full priced release that contains some additonal features over the original game. This is also the case for other forms of entertainment media in the USA. There is one exception however since we have seen more that a fair share of Star Wars re-releases in the past few years. I suppose we usually think in terms of full blown sequels, never a tweaking or tuning of a product. Things are quite different in the Japanese gaming scene. In the past few years, on the Super Famicom, PC-Engine and now the 32-bit consoles, NCS has sold both original and so called "Director's Cut" or enhanced versions of video games. Lunar the Silver Star is one such release and this week, we have the MPEG Edition of this very popular RPG that we originally offered for sale last year. Please note that only owners of the Sega or JVC MPEG decoder card will be able to enjoy the full-screen video that this version of the game offers. | ![]() |

Game Arts re-releases Lunar: The Silver Star with full MPEG decoder capablity. What this means is that all of the ample animation in the game is shown in full screen with very smooth video as opposed to video that is bordered by an ugly black box that lessens the detail and leaves you with a very unattractive looking picture that looks out of place. | ![]() |

| In the montage to the right, we post some of the great animation and characters that you'll find in Lunar. All of the different scenarios and animation cels are beautifully presented in movie quality anime artwork and effects. The cut scenes are a graphical treat and help to make this the best thus far in the Lunar series. Is Lunar MPEG Edition worth buying if you already own the original? Tough call, the full screen video is certainly beautiful to look at but Saturn fans who have completed the game may be leery of buying what is essentially the same product. | ![]() |
