Exchanging diaries in Japan is a common high school courtship process where you give the details of your most intimate and private thoughts and affairs to someone who is mutually interested with you. Remember, this is a mutual transaction and is usually initiated and approached (gingerly) by the male. If the girl accepts your offer of exchange, then you're in luck. If she doesn't, you'll have to find that special one that will accept your deepest thoughts and obsessions. There have been some embarassing real-life cases where a male forced his diary upon someone only to have it rejected and the exchange stopped short. The word otaku comes to mind. Tact is integral. M is a dating simulation where the age-old ritual is accompanied by the exchange of diaries with one of four girls at your high school. The girls include an old childhood friend, a younger girl and two new acquaintances. When the game begins, you exchange diaries with one of your female interests and then see where the romance will take you. In addition to the diary swap, you will naturally see the girl of your dreams at school and interact with her based on what you have learned from her diary. Each girl has her own little likes, dislikes, preferences, etc and you should take this into account with your interactions. The socializing is played through preset menus where you are given four choices as responses to different queries or situations. As in real life, the quality and nature of your responses play a big part in how the girl will regard you. If you say too many of the wrong things, in opposition to her personality and political orientation, she will dump you. If you say all the right things and win her heart, she will be your girlfriend and possibly walk down the aisle with you one day. Then you can play the Playstation game, Marriage for the full treatment. |
