| DC Giga Wing 2 |
Scans |
In
shooters such as Don Pachi and it's sequel, there were times when the
screen filled with so much enemy scattershot that it was impossible to
avoid being hit. This defined quarter munching in the coin-op realm
where jingling change was gobbled up like so much candy because of unfair
gameplay and finite movement.
Giga Wing 2 is like this. There are tons of shots to avoid
but unlike Don Pachi, you have the Reflect Force on your side. Bullets
dance off of your fighter and strike back at foes. Reflect laser joins
your arsenal as well something called Kingfisher. The visual
presentation in this sequel is quite good. Dive through cloud cover
and attack enemy airships, strike across luminous cities, and react to
the constant motion of oncoming attackers. A beaut of a shmup. |

Derby Jockey 2001 |
Scans |
|
The Sport of Kings forces a few
demands upon it's participants. For one, the horse must be sturdy of
hoof and it's bloodline strong. Next, the jockey needs to be a lightweight and the trainer wise to the ways and whims of equines. When all
of the elements meld and mesh like a finely tuned machine, races are
won and purses are captured. Derby Jockey began it's life on the Super
Famicom and has evolved from 2-D racing to full blown 3-D featuring
thundering hoofs and thrilling races. In DJ 2K1, you begin the game
with an untrained horse who needs to be broken in and adapted to the
ways of his new masters. With the proper training, the horse will help
you capture stakes and acclaim. New to the 2001 version are detailed
horse training and arcade style racing on horseback. |

Quarter Import Closure |
Sakura 3 LE |
|
The DC, PS, and PS2 import schedules for the first quarter have now
been finalized and posted on the main page. Or, as finalized as they can be in this ever changing
market. Notable additions include Sakura Taisen 3 regular
edition, and two limited editions (Type A and Type B) to March 22 on
the Dreamcast and Kessen 2 to the Playstation 2 listing for
March 08. Gran Turimo 3 A-Spec is a glaring omission from
the PS2 schedule and motors from February 15 to an estimated April
2001 timeframe. This new date is, of course, subject to further change
when March rolls around. |
Indications from vendors
concerning the limited edition Sakura packages are that they will be
large. It is uncertain why the Type B box which contains a VMU would
be big but we'll post more details soon. LE Type A includes a music
box.

In
continuing with this week's GBA theme, NCS
is currently accepting pre-order requests for the Gameboy Advance
which will ship on March 21. We should have a fairly solid pre-order
offer posted on the website next week. This offer will also be mailed
to everyone who has inquired about the GBA this past week or sent us a
message with the GBA Preorder header. Overnight, a number of Japanese
vendors faxed deals to NCS where we were required to purchase up to
seven GBA cartridges per GBA unit. This seemed to be the most common
package deal but we'll keep looking out for less restrictive
overtures. As usual, NCS will keep all informed on how we will handle
the GBA package but we will probably have to bundle at least two or
three games per GBA unit due to the way that we will purchase the unit
at launch. Thanks.
