Eldorado Gate Vol. 3 [
JAPAN ] |
Scans |
The
biblical "Fall" narrative factors in the world of
Eldorado Gate, where a benevolent god Dios clashes with his
antithesis Rajin and banishes him and followers to exile.
Working secretly, Rajin rises once again and manifests his
influence by manipulating twelve humans in Eldorado and
imbuing them with the spirits of his fallen disciples. This is
their story.
The third volume of Capcom's serial RPG follows
the tales of three women in the game world. Pamela, a young
wrestler woman searches for true love and companionship.
Sophie lives for the hunt and makes a living as a stalker of
monsters and wild beasts. Finally, Kanan is both blessed and
cursed by a face mask that cannot be taken off. The blessing
springs forth from the protective aura that the mask grants to
her. The curse of the mask hides her beauty and identity
to society. |

Phantasy Star Online [ USA ] |
Scans |
The
online console wars are over before they even start, now that
Sega will publish on Sony and Nintendo consoles. Sega
pioneered online console gaming and Phantasy Star Online joins
parties of disparate adventurers together for an engrossing
romp. A new Phantasy game awaits seasoned regulars of the
series and induction fans start out with a beautifully
constructed introduction to a popular franchise.
A catastrophe impacts a newly colonized home
planet and all communication is lost. The player, aboard the
Pioneer 2 starship, must embark on a quest to uncover clues,
read cues, and get to the bottom of the disaster. The Japanese
version of PSO was multi-lingual and this new USA edition also
speaks in different tongues. A preview of the spectacular
Sonic 2 is also included but heaven knows when the blue
furball will make his appearance. Highly
recommended. |

Sega
kills off one segment, makes plans to penetrate into the camps
of former rivals, and potentially saves the whole company in
one fell swoop. Sounds like a plot fit for a Sega Gaga sequel.
Although Dreamcast consoles will cease production, there are abundant supplies in the
channel and any
semblance of a shortage is impossible. Japanese vendors are
surprisingly sedate with the news of Sega's plans. We have
seen drastic overnight price cuts on discontinued goods in the
past and Sega's promise of upcoming Dreamcast software
development appears to have stanched any bloodletting. Read
between the lines and spurts may erupt... for now, the landscape is becalmed by a year-long game
schedule dotted with notable names and marquee heroes. Third
party DC support is up in the air but the assumption would be
that projects already in the pipeline will be released
although new development will stop.
One month old, and the video entertainment market
in 2001 is already invigorated with tectonic shift. Nintendo's
moves and Microsoft's entry later this year will rattle the
status quo even more. Change is in the air and new directions
are afoot. We live in interesting times. Blessing
or curse? |

A year ago, the laughter would have been loud and sonorous
had anyone mentioned Sonic or Virtua Fighter on any console
other than a Sega machine. It was unthinkable but no one's laughing now. Sega's new
guise as solely a software publisher propels the company into the
exclusive ranks of an elite clique of publishers including Capcom,
Konami, and Square. All these houses enjoy high margins, hefty profits,
and best of all, no dastardly worries about hardware strategy.
The Sega company now gets to focus on doing what it does best -
produce innovative, revolutionary, world class software on the pop
consoles & handhelds of the day. |

NCS' interest at this point is gathering sufficient parts and
pieces to help us repair future DC console problems. This
includes replacement GD-Rom drives, motors, pcboard components
and the like. We've already seen a spate of GD-Rom drive
failures so this will be a priority over the next couple of
weeks as we seek supply. |
