Advance Update |
Launch
History |
| A
number of changes have been effected by overseas suppliers on
the Nintendo GBA offer that NCS will prepare and ship on March
21. Due to these changes, the choices of games have expanded
from the original four titles that we posted a couple of weeks
ago to twelve. Super Mario Kart Advance, F-Zero Advance,
Akumajou Dracula, and Fire Pro Wrestling remain our top
pre-orders but many customers have since added other titles to
their reservations. We'll be able to offer additional software
titles based on the rank of pre-order requests. Please wait
for tomorrow morning's update before sending e-mail questions.
A second GBA e-mail was planned for last week but not
processed due to the various changes taking place at the time.
Tuesday's Gameboy Advance offer will be the final revision and
all pre-orders are to be based on the new information that we
will post tomorrow. Everyone on our GBA reservation list will
also receive the update in their mailbox by Tuesday morn.
Thanks. |

Peering
back through time, back in the days of the Saturn launch,
the N64 debut, and most recently the PS2 release in Japan,
all have been marked by fever. If we had to choose the most
disastrous, it would fall upon the N64's shoulders where
prices were amazingly, US$589 per unit + Mario 64, at launch.
That was 1996 and pre-orders were brisk. However, NCS took
in triple the needed stock and took a bath when Nintendo
flooded supplies to market and prices dove to ~US$300 within
weeks. Lesson learned... |

| DC
Phantasy Star Online [ USA ] |
Superior? |
The
USA version of PSO will not work properly on Asian or Japanese
chip modified Dreamcast consoles. At least, the three new
discs we've tested over the weekend didn't work; it would be
too much of a coincidence for all three to fail on all five
machines we tried. The game goes past the character set-up
menu but when roaming starts, the action invariably stops. No
mod chip update had been planned heretofore but NCS will
evaluate the situation and conditions in order to make a
decision within the next week or two. If you have a chip
modified Asian or Japanese DC console and was able to
get PSO to work, we'd appreciate feedback
as well.
With regards to the Broadband Adaptor, both PSO
USA and Japanese versions support this peripheral but
apparently Sega is unable to provide any guarantee that it
will work with your ISP. This prompts the safe party line of non-support
to limit liability and returns when your internet provider is
found wanting with regards to online Sega gaming... |

The Japanese version of Phantasy
Star Online works fine on any territory version of the
Dreamcast with either mod-chip or Gameshark CDX
installed. Similar to the USA version of PSO, the
Japanese edition is packed with multi-lingual options so
gamers from around the world can boot up, delve in, and
start gaming immediately. When using a consumer
product, lack of restrictions is an friendly and endearing
trait... Confining factors and legacies can only breed
contempt, bile, and rancorous outcry. Thank you. |

Import Outlook |
Wonderswan |
| Nothing
much to chew on this week but PS2 Game Select 5 is due
tomorrow while GBC Ohasta Dance Dance Revolution shakes
it on Thursday. Looking ahead to next week, DC Hundred
Swords and Aero Dancing I make their way to market
on February 14. Similarly, PS2 Battle J-Phoenix and Dinosaur
are pencilled in for February 15. |

| If
fortune smiles upon us this week, we may also receive our
belated stock of WSC Guilty Gear, Gundam v1.0, Namco
Wonder Classic, and With You (Normal and Limited
Editions). |

| Code |
Photographic |
| An
individual whom we only know as "Barubary" has been
kind enough to send us codes, information, and other helpful
hints over the past couple of years. All unsolicited but very
much appreciated. He sent us a number of codes a couple of
months back which allowed the playing of various Konami Bemani
append discs such as Beatmania and Pop 'n Music without the
master Bemani programs. Unfortunately, our codex and contact
address for Barubary has been lost and we are rebuilding our
code index for eventual addition to the NCS front page for all
visitors to extract necessary codes from. If anyone has this
Gameshark/PAR code, we would recompense you with a hearty
thank you. Feedback
welcome. |

| NCS
updated the online store with photos, scans, and rips of all
Dreamcast, Playstation, and Saturn accessories in our stock.
Some photos and scans may be updated in the next couple of
days with more aesthetic ones. The crop of PS2 and N64
accessories should see their own likenesses online by the end
of the week. The blue skeleton Saturn also gets a new page. |
