Final Fantasy VIII update
   Imports
Final Fantasy VIII Conflict
NCS reported on Monday that Square's Final Fantasy VIII would load on domestic Playstations through standard ways and means per information from our suppliers. Overnight, we received conflicting stories from two separate distribution houses that the game will not boot using standard methods. New solutions are available that will boot Final Fantasy VIII including but not limited to the use of a Game Shark code or a "caetla" device that requires the swapping of discs. NCS will confirm the need for new methodology tomorrow when the game is expected on these shores.
Street Fighter Zero 2 Figures
A gallery of the SFZ2 figures is now available for perusing. Monday's update has been linked.
Dreamcast Magazine Vol. 6
The latest issue of Dreamcast Magazine is in stock this morning. Subscriptions and new orders will ship today.
Playstation April 1999 Schedule
A complete April 1999 import schedule will be posted tomorrow once NCS verifies some dates and last minute additions. Skimming through the list reveals some interesting titles. R Regular is described as an action sound game that features snowboarding and a music band simulation. A Limited Edition of R includes an photo CD and 8 trading cards. Bust a Move 2 Dance Paradise Mix is listed for April 22 and features 18 dancers. The initial production run for this game is quite large at 350,000 units. BaM2 will also have the biggest run of any game expected in April. Super Robot Wars F Final concludes the latest chapter in the popular Robot Wars series of games on April 15. Finally, Nurse Story features a dating adventure set in a metropolitan hospital. In contrast to the Bust a Move 2 production run, only 15,000 copies of Nurse Story are slated for production. The complete schedule will be posted tomorrow.
   Everything Else
Yen Equilibrium
The dollar surged to Y114.70 in the overnight forex session. Goldman and other currency traders may have been caught short. It remains to be seen if it will break out of the trading band that has been set over the past couple of months. If the dollar's ascent continues, there could be a very quick trip to Y120 by next week. We think it will roam around the Y115 level over the next couple of weeks. Arbitrageurs will circle like vultures looking for weakness.
XRGB-2
The introduction of the Dreamcast has re-ignited demand for the XRGB-2 upscan convertor. Our opinion is as follows: The DC VGA Box from Sega will offer a cleaner video signal than the XRGB-2. The advantage that the XRGB offers is the ability to use other systems and any video source whereas the DC VGA Box may only be used with the Dreamcast. Both devices will output cleaner video than standard A/V or S-Video. NCS will restock the XRGB-2 upscan by next week. Each sale will include one RGB cable of your choice (PS, SS, DC). Neo Geo RGB cables may be special ordered.
Capital Markets
Unwavering conviction can be a dangerous thing. It can also be very rewarding. NCS is squarely in the bull camp this week even though the market seems to want to sell off. Each time it starts to sell off however, it never accelerates. Rather, the selling decelerates, slows and crawls back up as buyers enter the market. Not the most healthy thing to watch since there is confusion and indecision out there. Bulls are nervous that we've bounced off a top and are heading down from heated valuations. Bears are shaky because we've corrected somewhat and the selling that we've seen may be all that they're going to get. It's a market dominated by oscillating levels of fear and greed. One emotion keeps the other in check. We keep an eye on SPX and BKX levels and none have been broken in the past couple of sessions. Until that happens, conviction will rule the day and we'll stay long.
