Playstation 2 / 600,000 units?
Early indications out of Asia and Japan show that Sony's much heralded
launch target of 1 million units may slip a few hundred thousand short. Separate
distributors have told NCS overnight that a range of 600,000 to 750,000 launch units is
more likely than the anticipated 1 million being bandied about. Couple this with the fact
that Sony wants to apportion roughly 250,000 units to their own on-line web shop and we
have a potential shortage on our hands. NCS will keep our customers updated on the
situation but initial pricing coming out of Hong Kong is already ridiculous in the face of
this news. If the pricing reaches Dreamcast launch levels back in 1998 of US$800+ per
unit, NCS will strongly recommend that customers hold off on their
purchases for a couple of weeks while the market seeks sanity. NCS plans on posting our
PS2 pricing later this week when all news and vendor allotments have been settled. It's
deja vu all over again.
Members of the PS2 mailing list will receive additional information in
separate mailings on Thursday afternoon. |

Playstation 2 Downward Incompatibility
Another PS2 issue to contend with this morning: It appears only
certain PS1 games will be compatible with the PS2 and not everything in
the expansive PS1 library will be playable on the PS2. Sony will publish a listing of PS1
games that will be compatible with the PS2 on their website in March. |

Dreamcast Imports this Week
The graphically intense Sega GT Homologation Special is
expected on Wednesday for the import DC. Also due is Dance Dance Revolution 2nd
Mix and the Official ASCII Dancing Controllers so that fans can get into the
action and move about instead of sitting couch potato-like. |
