Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the PS2
that we receive every day. Some questions are verbatim as they are
received by NCS. |
Can the Japanese PS2
play USA PS2 games?
We're assuming the answer would be no. Sony has a healthy history of
enforcing territory protection schemes and stopping modification technique.
Will I be able to watch USA DVDs on the PS2?
The PS2 DVD will more than likely be region encoded so that DVDs from
territories outside of Asia are incompatible.
Where can I buy a mod chip for the PS2?
This won't be available until the USA PS2 is available on the market.
Territory rom dumps are useless without something to compare it to and adjust accordingly.
What is the price of the PS2?
This will be finalized this week but from the feedback we've received from
vendor associates in Asia and Japan, it won't be pretty. |

Dreamcast Carrier Delayed
Jaleco has delayed the release of their 3-D action-adventure Carrier
by 1 week. NCS will take delivery of the game on February 23. Also
expected next week are Dee Dee Planet, The Lost Golem, Aero
Dancing F, Logic Battle, and Ring. |

New
Dreamcast Modification
EMS has released a new replacement bios rom for the Dreamcast that
upgrades a Dreamcast console into a multi-territory unit. The rom will allow any Dreamcast
to load software from the USA, Europe, and Asia/Japan. The only problem here is the task
of removing the IC501 bios, which requires de-surface mounting the rom and then replacing
it with the new modified bios. Considering the proximity of other components on the main
board to IC501, the rom swap technique may not find a willing market to replace what is
already available. |
