Playstation 2 Launch
NCS will take delivery of the PS2 consoles during the week of March 6.
Here are some details for the PS2 that our customers may find relevant: |
| Playstation 2 Package
Specifications |
| PS2 carton dimensions: 355mm
x 307mm x 137mm |
| PS2 carton weight: 2.7kg
( 5.95 lbs ) |
Each PS2 carton will contain
the following items:
1 PS2 console
1 Analog Controller
1 8M Memory Card
1 Power Cable
1 AV Cable
1 Demo CD |
| All current PS
accessories are compatible with the PS2 including video cables, controllers, and memory
cards. If you have a PS custom-built RGB cable, this will be fully compatible with the
PS2. |
| NCS First
Week Pricing: US$780 per unit |
| Software prices
are expected to range within the US$80 mark per title. As such, NCS recommends that
customers not purchase the PS2 unit at the launch. Prices are high and
discounts of US$200+ are very likely in the coming weeks after the PS2 debut. NCS will
however stock the PS2 at these prices although we maintain that customers should wait
until prices are more stable. This is, of course, contrary to our best interest and we
should be goading buyers into purchasing the PS2 immediately but prices are grossly unfair
and inflated at this point. |
| Customers who
have requested addition to our PS2 reservation list will be contacted today by e-mail on
the situation and we'll offer suggestions on purchasing the unit. Please wait for this
e-mail so that you are aware of the procedure for finalizing your pre-order with NCS for
the Playstation 2. |
| Kessen
and Drummania with controller are now confirmed as launch titles.
Drummania will retail at US$210 based on it's yen retail of Y15000. Tecmo's Dead
or Alive 2 release date is now tentative and it has been removed from the
schedule for March 30. Perhaps Sony felt Namco's Tekken Tag would enjoy
better sales if DOA2 was pushed back a bit. |
| The numbers for
the PS2 launch appear to coincide with our posting from last week of 600,000 units at the
launch. Another 600,000 units will hit the market one week after the PS2 debut but rumors
among NCS trading partners in Japan and Asia have the subsequent 600,000 units as being
completely sold out to pre-orders from vendors and direct retail. Note that this is only a
rumor at this point which may have no merit. NCS will update this
information accordingly when more details surface in the next couple of days. |
