X-Box
Microsoft announced in Tokyo overnight that it would venture into the
video game world with a new console in late 2001. The architecture appears to be cobbled
together with parts from the usual PC suppliers such as a 600mhz processor (Intel inside
or Athlon?), hard drive, DVD player and a minimum of 64M of ram. Whether or not MSFT can
compete with the likes of the PS2, which should be firmly entrenched by
late 2001 in global markets, remains to be seen. Our money's on Sony, Sega, and even
Nintendo to continue world domination. However, one simple way for MSFT to assure
themselves of success would probably be to sign Squaresoft, Namco, or
Capcom to an exclusive multi-year contract... Squaresoft appear to be most prolific. |
