Dynamite Boxing

Dynamite Boxing is expected tomorrow. This new pugilistic romp features two boxing views. The first mode is a head-on view, much like Punch-Out from the SNES while the other perspective is a side view of the two boxers as they dance around the ring. Each boxer has a back-story and players will get to view ringside reports at the end of every bout.
Konami announced a special Antiques Collection overnight that is expected to ship on July 23. The new disc will compile all three existing volumes of the Antiques series into a single CD at US$49. One has to wonder why this wasn't done before since all three volumes still take up less than 1% of the CD-Rom's capacity.

Another release from Konami was announced overnight. Their popular shooter Gradius Gaiden will get the "Best Series" treatment on July 30 at US$35. GG features the classic shooter action that we've seen in older Gradius games but pumped up with Playstation style special effects and wicked weaponry. Pre-orders are welcome.    Finally, Konami has confirmed September 03 as the date that Metal Gear Solid will begin shipping in Japan. Gear may be one of the most anticipated games this year with it's 3-D playfields and it's respected pedigree from the heyday of the NES. The retail in Japan is listed at Y6800 so we expect a range between US$60 and US$65.

NCS now has a Marvel vs Capcom JAMMA set-up. First impressions have been for the most part positive but it is way too easy to pull of mega-combos and outrageous multi-hit attacks that decimate the opponent's life gauge. For example, Strider Hiryu, a favorite around here, can unleash a massive robotic dog strike that is pretty simple to pull off which causes a good amount of damage. Other characters like Rockman have similarly powerful attacks that require a lot of joystick and button mashing. A couple of MAS arcade sticks needed replacement after a couple of sessions with some overzealous players. Sigh. Is it fun? You bet, we just wish that it wasn't so over the top but with so many 2-D fighters under their belt, it looks like bigger, faster and crazier is better in Capcom's collective mindset. NCS can offer additional Marvel vs Capcom boardsets at US$850 but delivery will take up to 2 weeks due to supplier delays in Japan.
Marvel vs Capcom
Morrigan of Vampire fame, is held aloft by her bats as she sends her love to Zangief. If Morrigan should falter, the player can call upon Strider to jump in and take up the slack.
