 PS2 Golful Golf

Scans

Well manicured courses, tastefully arranged trees, and diligently cored greens enhance the game for any golfing addict. Artdink supplies a visually supple environment in which to exercise your virtual swing but they also enhance the game with a new-type control scheme. Doing away with golf gaming systems which rely on watching gauges and pressing buttons at opportune moments, Golful gives you total control over your swing by way of tugging and wagging the Dual Shock knobs. It's a more intuitive feel than eyeballing a swing gauge and pounding a button. Thanks to the pressure sensitive nature of the PS2 controllers, exerting more force on the knob imparts greater power to your swing onscreen. Players may choose from eight main characters and develop attributes by going through the 144 courses. As you hone your game, your character stats improve which allow for better control and power. Theoretically then, a hacker, or a poor player, may eventually graduate from the peasant class and head towards the jacketed pantheon of professionals. A wacky assemblage of sideline personalities also provide commentary and input into your life as a golfer on and off the links. In stock today at US$68.

 Dorimaga Vol. 1

Summary

DC Magazine is dead. Kaput. Long live Dorimaga. Tokuma Shoten gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago with DC Magazine Vol. 13 as the final issue. Publisher Softbank took over the reins, renamed the magazine, and kept most of the original format intact.
The premiere issue takes things in stride with no major announcements or groundbreaking ceremonies inside. We do get a recap of the history of Beep! Magazine, Mega-Drive Magazine, Sega Saturn Magazine, and Dreamcast Magazine, along with birth and death dates of all respective publications. Flipping the pages further - Shenmue 2 snares coverage, Virtua Fighter 4 looks hot, PSO v2.0 goes live next week, and we get a gander at Sonic Adventure 2. Continued coverage of Sakura Taisen 3 hops over from DCM and the fan artwork submissions on Sakura seem inspired. A quirky look at developer Hitmaker's studios reveals messy desks, staff sleeping on the floor, and empty vending machines. Tres chic? In addition to the new periodical, pricing is now hiked to US$13.50 per issue due to a change in newsprint suppliers.
