the year 2060, Neo Tokyo overflows with the criminal element
and it's a thug life for many up 'n coming miscreants.
The police force can't cope and resorts to doling out mercenary work to
enterprising freelance contractors who have the resources to
kneecap goons who are dignified only by the warrants on their
heads. As Sara Fitzgerald, you play the part of a bounty
hunter who takes on high risk assignments to earn the almighty
dollar. The game focuses on your mission to take down the Lord
of the Holy Mountain, a feared gangster, by going through his
ranks and making the right decisions when facing a dicey
scenario. Staid presentation consists of static screens and
dialog interruptions, speckled with an artsy film noir-ish narrative
throughout the game.

City needs a hero. Make that three heroes, to take on the Mad
Gear gang which is wreaking havoc on the streets of the city.
Mayor Haggar, his daughter's boyfriend Cody, and pal Guy
stride forward to punch, kick, and throw assorted thugs from
the beaten path. In later levels, hardcore chicks with pink
hair, fishnets, and spiky heels would join the cavalcade of
smack-down fodder. The Gameboy Advance impresses with it's
ability to retain the primal flavor of the arcade original
(Final Fight, coin-op, was originally released in 1989) and
offers mindless yet enjoyable fun.

Sure, it's late by about a month but times are tough for the
Wonderswan Color, what with Nintendo on full Advance assault.
Nevertheless, Square's card-based RPG landed yesterday and
pre-orders ship today. This game also marks one of the
most requested WSC titles of recent note.
The world is all about cards as far as Wild
Card is concerned. From the party members to the monsters
to the weapons, everything gets representation via thin slices
of colored cardboard. Assemble a cadre of five warriors and
utilize the game's "Card Construction System" to
open up new missions and tangents during your adventure. There
is no world map to travel through and scenario cards provide
the paths into new roaming and exploration. Monster encounters
are fought with decks of magic and weaponry cards, each with a
hit value. Special technique cards may also be flipped during
battles to enhance attacks. Exotic attacks and stronger cards
may be found as you progress deeper into the game.
Exquisite artwork by Akihiko Yoshida of Tactics
Ogre fame embellishes the presentation of Wild Card and the
WSC handles fine details and character features very
well.

A
total of thirteen DC imports are winding their way to the
market for July. Notable are the already confirmed Capcom
games Super Puzzle Fighter IIX and Heavy Metal
Geomatrix on July 5 and July 12 respectively, Super
Robot Wars Alpha from Bandai, and Outrigger on July
26. Note that the USA version of Outrigger ships on
July 25 but NCS will import the Japanese version in any case
to sate collectors. The full listing and relevant links will

re-release of the USA version of Shenmue ships in Japan
on July 5. Pricing appears reasonable at Y3000. An enhanced
version of the Playstation game SRW Alpha with improved
graphics ships on July 26 at Y6800.
