CD-Rom FAQ v1.0 |
| Why does my
Playstation refuse to boot up ? |
| It's called normal wear and tear on the drive
mechanism. The fact that the CD-Rom is a cheap optical device doesn't help players either.
A solution that was widely used to alleviate the problem was adjusting the bias and gain
dials on the Playstation pcboard. This was a temporary solution to the problem. If you
have previously adjusted your dials, you'll have to return them to their original settings
when installing a new drive for proper operation. |
| How
do I alleviate the problem permanently? |
| You can always pick up a drive from NCS. The
CD-Roms that we supply are drives that have new motor and lens mechanisms in them although
the casings are derived from old CD-Rom drive units. Sony no longer produces the casings
although the motors and lens are still manufactured by factories in Asia. NCS can't say
that a new drive from NCS will solve the problem permanently since all
Sony drives are prone to failure but it will save you a lot of headache from watching
skippy FMV movies and listening to sound drop-outs. NCS warranties each optical lens for a
period of 90 days against defect. Lenses are in stock at US$38 for models SCPH-1000, 3000
and 5000. Please specify your particular model when ordering. |

| The Saturn
Dracula X print run of 30,000 copies is now completely sold out in Japan. NCS has
confirmed a shipment next Monday and additional shipments later in the week. All
pre-orders are guaranteed and should be fulfilled by next week. Konami's reproduction of
Dracula X will be available on July 07 with a smaller print run, but it will cover all
outstanding reservations in Japan. |
| NCS will have restock of the
Saturn JVC movie card next Monday at USD95 per unit. The video-card plays video cd discs
as well as photo-cds. Any reservations and requests that we have on hand will be shipped
next week. |
| We have 25 slots
available on our Metal Gear Solid Limited Edition pre-order schedule. We received 25 new
requests yesterday. The game will ship along with the regular edition on September 03 at
USD95. This price should remain stable as long as the yen/dollar exchange rate does not
fluctuate wildly. |
| Capcom is recalling all copies of
Saturn Super Adventure Rockman due to a defect on the disc. If you have purchased a copy
of this game, return it to your vendor for recall back to Capcom in Japan. The Playstation
version is okay. |
| NCS receives new
Japanese JAMMA stock every week. Occasionally, some boards are delivered directly to
arcade operators while others are special orders for our customers. NCS will now update
our JAMMA listings every week to reflect new additions and items that have sold out. |
