SNK has confirmed KOF 99 for the Neo Geo cartridge console, scheduled
to ship on September 23 at Y38,000 or roughly NCS$289. Although SNK has not formally
opened pre-orders for the game, NCS will start accepting reservations today. Pre-orders
that are received before August 12 will include a set of KOF '99 telephone cards. |

Dreamcast Fan
The publisher of Japanese magazine, DC Fan, has
scaled back the periodical to a monthly schedule due to lackluster circulation in Japan.
Competitor DC Magazine has not announced any changes to their publishing
schedule but we note that DC Magazine sales have been flat since the
beginning of this year. They lift up a bit when a GD-Rom finds itself inside an issue. |

PS Shell Update
NCS has not forgotten the Playstation owners who have SCPH-1000
consoles and want to clarify them with candy colored shells. The new mold has been
finished and the seven different colors of the shells have been produced. However, NCS has
experienced certain contingencies with the importation of the shells, among other items
such as JAMMA pcboards and will see what transpires before we bring in any more
containers. NCS will post an update when we have further details, likely within 2 weeks. |

DC Shell Update
NCS has finished molding our first Dreamcast sample shell in a smoky
transparent color. This project was much simpler than the PS because there is only one pcb
revision at this time. However, there are issues that have to be resolved before we can
produce them for resale. For one, the snap-on piece is not cost effective to produce and
if users want to use their modems, there will be obvious color clash. We are aware that
the modem piece is removeable but we have to set up a separate mold for the little piece,
which adds start-up costs to the project. Each piece must also be manufactured separately
from the main shell. Sigh, we'll see what happens. Two, there's a little foam cushion on
the top shell that presses down on the GD-Rom assembly. We will not produce these, so the
user will have to transfer the foam from the original shell to the new shell. We'll make a
decision on the snap-on piece but suggestions and feedback are always welcome. Once we
iron out these considerations, we should be able to offer the shells in September. |

Capital
/ 10:12AM
We're holding onto our forex trade for dear life and adding contracts
on dollar weakness. We don't think we'll break Y112 but the trading has been surprising
weak and Mr. Yen has been surprising silent. Deafeningly so. Y112 is pivotal to our play
but if we do pierce it, we look for a swift rebound as intervention hits the market. We
have no hedge and have installed no stops on this futures play but we have some cushion
before the red looks bleak. It's funny how the market wears down conviction and confidence
but there's no other game like it.
The equity market is heartened by the NAPM data. We have a
mighty rally after morning weakness but we still think the market is a good short at these
levels. We'll look for levelling off later this afternoon with a pivot at 10,800 as we're
not sure that the NAPM cancels out last week's ECI numbers entirely. No, that would be too
easy and money isn't made that way. |
