Rapid Angel comes from the same platformer fold that classics such as Valis, Makeruna Makendo and Ninja Warriors sproted from. Like those earlier offerings, the goal is to move across the screen and attack enemies and obstacles alike. Upon starting the game in Rapid Angel, the player can choose from three mighty warriors. The first is a red-head in red shorts. She's the one you see with the odd attire on the cover. Her special attack consists of streaming light blasts that emanate from her being. The second character is a girl that dresses like a bell-hop and the third girl looks oddly like Macross' Minmei. The game features some great background graphics of nature scenes as you romp in the foreground with goons bearing swords and hulking bruisers that only seek to pummel you into oblivion. Our favorite background level was the one with the forest of gnarled trees and streaming sunlight that poked through the limbs for a surreal mood to the entire scene. As a game, there is nothing revolutionary here. Let's see, move from left to right and encounter enemy. Kill enemy with a punch or a kick. Take a hit from time to time. Move on and repeat the steps. Sound familiar? Still, Rapid Angel if worth checking out if you're a fan who's been longing for some new platform punch 'n kick action. These types of games have become far and few between on the 32-bit consoles, perhaps for good reason.
