Capcom vs SNK - No Amendments Please

Volume

NCS has prepared the invoices for all pre-orders for Capcom vs SNK already. We would appreciate if customers do not change their orders at this time, whether it be an item addition or a change in shipping. We have stacks of invoices waiting for the arrival of CVS tomorrow and it would be arduous to search through the invoices to change or amend anything at this point. If you wish to add something, please include it in a future order or place a separate order to ship by itself. We do apologize for the restriction on CVS pre-orders but we will process and ship over a thousand orders on Wednesday and we wish to ensure that all of our customers get their copies dispatched simultaneously and without delay. Thank you for understanding.

It's become something of a ritual at this point. Whether it was Vampire Saviour on the Sega Saturn or Marvel vs Capcom on the Dreamcast, there is big volume in Cap's  fighting games. The company owns this space and we see the massive following that their 2-D fighting games still control. Another one hits us tomorrow and the fanbase is appeased.

ASCII Capcom Pad

A shipment of ASCII CVS pads arrived this morning, a day earlier than expected. Too bad the Capcom vs SNK game didn't arrive at the same time, but it is still on schedule for tomorrow. The Capcom version of the ASCII CVS pad includes a deck of 14 character cards. On the face of each card is the name of the fighter and a picture. The flipside features the fighter's portrait and some choice special moves that one can launch. The fighters included in the Capcom deck include <Continued Below>

New orders for the pads may be shipped today. The ASCII Fighting sticks are expected tomorrow but supplies may be short due to a cut in pre-orders. Additional supplies are due next week.

Gameboy Color Olympics Limited Edition

Photo

A limited edition Australian territory Color Gameboy is available today from NCS. Distributed by Nintendo Australia Ltd, this CGB commemorates the 2000 Summer Olympics with a skeleton green and gold shell. The Australian continent sits neatly between the directional pad and the buttons. The battle cry of "Ozzie! Ozzie! Ozzie!" is emblazoned underneath the continent. The face of this particular Gameboy is clear green while the back is clear gold. A pair of AA batteries is included.
Nintendo does not enforce territory lockouts on the Gameboy hardware and software from the USA and Japan will work fine on this unit. Pricing is set at US$78 and new orders are welcome. Please note that this item will be added to the on-line store later today. Existing NCS accounts may order via e-mail request today.

Playstation 2 New Imports

Photo

Two new Playstation 2 imports arrived this morning. Both serve very niche tastes in the United States. The first is Pro Mahjong Kiwame Next, which continues a popular MJ series in Japan. The tiles are crisp and the characters that you play against are photo-realistic now but the gameplay remains staid, uninspired, and run of the mill. We need a newtype mahjong game to shake up the genre, perhaps another Suchie Pai Mahjong with little arcade games to break the tedium. Pricing is set at US$55.
Sangokushi VII enjoys a considerable fan base in Japan and Hong Kong. One telling sign that gamers in Hong Kong really love this game is by the sales run. Even though there is massive piracy in Asia, in general, games such as Sangokushi VII at a hefty Y8800 still sell out to fans who can't wait for the bootlegs to arrive. Gist: Govern a province, allocate resources, and expand your sphere of influence by way of the sword. Spread yourself too thin, too quickly, and you'll be the one taken over. Price US$88.

Neo Geo Madness

Scene

A vendor in Japan recently contacted NCS concerning available Neo Geo home cartridge stock. The selection was excellent but the prices have become somewhat insane. They also had some home cartridges that we did not know were in release in Japan. We have no plans to import this selection at the current prices but we would appreciate feedback from Neo Freaks who can confirm availability of some of these titles on the home console :

Captain Tomaday
Quiz King of Fighters
Ragnagard
Shock Troopers 2nd Squad ??

We have all of these on MVS but none on the home cartridge. Prices per cartridge are over US$450 each. However one oddity was "The Legend of Success Joe" which was offered to us at US$435. NCS sold about 15-20 units of this home cartridge a couple of years back for US$45 and did not know it was rare.
Some examples of other offers include Over the Top at US$245, King of Fighters 1994 at US$180 and Breakers at a handsome US$600. Oh, lest we forget, Fatal Fury Special at US$235?!?
Perhaps it's just capitalism taking over but Neo Geo pricing appears ludicrous nowadays. Still, fans in Japan appear to be paying these prices to get their Neo fix.

The resolve and dedication of the Neo Geo fan base is legendary and very familiar in the halls of NCS. Few fans are as loyal as those in the Neo Geo camp which spans the globe. Through the years, we have seen fanaticism of otaku-like proportions but it's all good. To an extent, we also saw the fanaticism in the Neo Geo Pocket user base but then again, many were also Neo Geo cartridge owners. What's the attraction of the Neo Geo? The sound for one is phenomenal but the games also have a sort of "Neo" flavor to them. It's difficult to explain but one can look at a Neo game and know it is Neo-Geo. Maybe it's the style of artwork or play mechanics. Perhaps it's Mega Shock attitude, guided by the SNK craft.

Our service provider was down for about 1 hour this morning and intermittently over the long holiday weekend. If your e-mail bounces, please resend it. Apologies for the inconvenience caused by the outages.
NGP Koi Koi Mahjong, Neo Turf Masters and Shanghai Mini have been restocked. We are waiting for our shipment of NGP Evolution Europa but we'll update our customers expeditiously once it arrives.
To address market demand, NCS will offer a custom-built RGB cable for the Dreamcast next week. This lead will work perfectly with the XRGB-2 to solve any tangential VGA Box incompatibility woes. Dual standard SCART and Japanese RGB cables of NCS custom-build will also be offered for the Playstation and Sega Saturn next week. A Nintendo 64 RGB cable is in the works.
